Spectralayers 11 crashing when unmixing a song

I have tried a couple of different songs to unmix, and did wav files and even an mp3, but Spectralayers is crashing every time. Anyone else having this issue? I’m using an RME Raydat soundcard on a custom built AMD system and Windows 11 Pro. Thanks in advance for any help in this.

Is it actually crashing by itself without clicking, or is it just hanging at 99% ? In the second case it’s a known issue that’s solved with the upcoming patch, but until then if you just keep waiting a little more the unmixing will eventually finish.

Robin,

Thank you for the quick response. It’s actually crashing as it’s going up in percentage, but it hasn’t even gotten to 99% that I have noticed. If it was hanging, I assume you mean that it’s not actually crashing, as in shutting the program down, which is what is happening in my case. I will try it again a little later.

Try:
-Using the Fast mode
-then High mode
does it crash ?

Also try using the CPU, and then the GPU (Edit > Preferences > System > AI Processing Device)

Robin,

Thank you for this info. I will try these things and get back to you.

Robin,
Using Fast Mode it went up to 99% and hung up. High mode it crashed. That was using CPU. When I switched it to GPU it got up to 99% and stayed that way for a bit, but I let it go and it finished, so switching it to GPU worked! I’ll be trying some different things, but your help is really appreciated in this!

Blessings.

No matter how many times I try, it freezes.
I’ve tried it with all kinds of sources.
Is this a Windows-only problem?
I hope a solution is found soon.

@shigeru.suehiro does it freeze, or does it crash ? If it seems to freeze at 99%, then just let it run and it will eventually finish. This temporary freezing is fixed in the upcoming patch.

Thank you for your kind reply.
It freezes at 99%.
And it says the software is not responding.
I’ll leave it for a while and try it out.

Thank you so much

I have some real concerns with this product. While watching the promo video it is stated repeatedly that the product uses AI extensively. AI requires a very robust DPU rich environment. Windows and Macs have very little DPU capability. My concern is that throwing this much AI in the pot is going to require 3rd party DPU hardware support.

@Old_Curmudgeon If you’re concerned about speed, GPUs do wonder at AI computation. Grab any NVIDIA, AMD or Intel GPU from the past 3 years, it speeds up AI processing in SpectraLayers 4 to 8 times faster than the fastest CPU.
That being said, except for Unmix Song which is specially heavy on computation, most AI modules in SpectraLayers 11 run fine on CPUs from the past 3 years.

No lucky here, too. Using SL with Cubase 13 (ARA) the project crashes. Another weird things: the first time it didn’t crash, but since it was a song with only vocals and acoustic guitar, it isolated the vocals and the guitar track was completely empty. No information even in the “Other” layer.

I’ve been very busy this last month, so I am just checking to see if there is an update coming to address this issue, as it hasn’t gotten much better, for me anyways. Thank for any answer on this.

Have you sent a support request to Steinberg?

Not yet. I was very busy and left this go because my understanding was that would be an update to deal with this issue, so I didn’t bother.
