SpectraLayers 12.0.20 Maintenance Update

Dear Forum members,

We are happy to announce the release of the second maintenance update for SpectraLayers 12, version 12.0.20.

This update offers several issue resolutions and improvements, including full GPU acceleration on Windows for the Unmix Song and Unmix Soundtrack modules.

As always, the update is available to download from the Steinberg website and via the Steinberg Download Assistant .

The full list of improvements and issues resolutions can be found in the release notes page.

All the best,
Luis

My GPU is enabled, but it’s really slow when I start Unmix Song. I’m using Ryzen 5700X and an RTX 4060. Is that not powerful enough?

I dL’d the installer from SB Support area and

just installed 12.0.20 right over 12.0.10 with not much input from me;

latest version found the already installed 12.0.10 install location and pretty much automatically installed .2 over .1

At least the 4060 is not a very fast card by any means, it has less than half the compute units of my 4070 Super that I’m very happy with.

YMMV!

@YourMusic.Pro That makes sense! So I’ve got to buy 5070!

If you need the functionality right now, fine, otherwise I’d maybe wait for the “Super” versions of those cards as well, since they’ll apparently have much more VRAM, which is really important for AI applications!

@YourMusic.Pro I’m going to do that because I have no money at all!!

Hey that’s great news!

I’ve been waiting to upgrade, so I must ask:

Is there any news on the “lingering old clips” issue when working through ARA in Nuendo?
(There is this problem that even if you make extensions permanent or remove them from the clips, when you use SL again, old clips will still be there like if they were active, and sometimes SL would confuse the clips and show you an old one when you open a new one.)

I’d like to know that it has been solved before I upgrade.

Thanks!

Disappointing result here with Unmix Song.
12 mins 39 secs to Unmix a 5min instrumental track using GTX 3080 in Win 11 23H 3.9GHz Intel CPU.
Spikes of activity on GPU but mostly unused.

Tried 12.0.20 on three wav files I have previously successfully Unmixed songs in 12.0.10.

Unfortunately, each time it crashes after about 2 mins with no dialog - spectralayers just disappears.

I will happily send a crash dump if you can tell me where it is. Meanwhile - how can I get back to 12.0.10?

Windows 11 (latest version) Nvidia 4060Ti, 32 GB ram

Do you have nVidia App installed? I had similar crash with ucrtbase.dll.
Fixed by uninstalling nVidia App and nVidia HD Audio.

no I don’t - just the bare minimum studio driver installed.

I think I have found the crashdump file though.. it is too big to attach - where to send?

Hello, is anyone else having similar problems with the current update 12.0.20?
Unmix Song reliably crashes SpectraLayerers 12.0.20 after about a minute. Both in the standalone version and in Cubase with ARA!

It works perfectly with 12.0.10!

If I only use the CPU, it works with 12.0.20, but it takes longer than with 12.0.10!

Win 11 Pro 24h2 (26100.4946)
Intel Core i7 265K
RTX 5070 (Driver 581.08)

Bug with Nvidia GPUs confirmed:

  • Spectralayers 12.0.10 worked fine with (limited) GPU mode for Unmix Song on my Nvidia 3050.
  • 12.0.20 crashes every time in the same configuration. Besides that, it shows slower estimated conversion time before the crash than 12.0.10.

The update works fine (and a bit faster than before) on my Notebook with AMD eGPU.

In both cases, before the progress bar appears and processing begins, a blank startup window hangs on screen unusually long (roughly 10-15 seconds or so).

OS Windows 11 latest.

I’m getting tired of being a beta tester for SpectraLayers! The release notes say that GPU usage in Windows is now working. It worked for me with 12.0.10, but now it doesn’t!

What’s this garbage? Doesn’t anyone test the updates before release?

I’m absolutely disappointed by this garbage!

Unmix Song works without issues on my PC (RTX 3060 Ti, Studio Driver 580.97). At least, the issue doesn’t seem to affect all systems the same way. The crash might also be caused by the Nvidia driver. The recent ones have actually been quite unstable when used with GPU-heavy applications.
I also get the blank progress dialog, though.

@Cubase-Erklaerbaer It was tested successfully during the beta phase on several NVIDIA and AMD GPUs. Unfortunately there’s a wide variety of drivers and hardware so it’s impossible to test them all, it would rather points to conditions external to SpectraLayers in that case.
