SpectraLayers 8 Crashes on any audio file

I’m running on Intel HD 770 graphics, latest driver, which supports OpenGL 4.5, etc. It’s a brand new i9-12900K system, 128GB Ram, Win 10. The program initializes fine, loads a wave file, play it once. Then the transport freezes with play highlighted and the program becomes un-responsive. Prior to the crash the UI seems fully responsive. Zoom, selection, etc. all work. But push play and it falls apart.

The log has these lines in it, which seem to be correct:

It runs fine on my brand new MBP M1 Max, but not on my main DAW. What can I do? I’d like to use it on my main computer.

I give up.

Ive upgraded Spectralayers three times over the years. It has never done a shred of actual work for me. Somehow I guess I hoped it would stabilize. It just doesn’t work. I’ve had different system configs, stable for Nuendo, ProTools, Ableton, video editing… But not Spectralayers. I deleted it. No more. So much promise but just very poor code. It runs fine on my M1 MBP, but I’m not exporting audio to a different system, just to use this software. There are alternatives. My last request for help here was ignored. It must work for someone. But I can’t speak the magic incantation, despite 20 years of computer music making.

Sorry, for some reason I never saw this thread - feel free to tag me for assistance.
Is your sound card available through WASAPI (instead of ASIO), and if so have you tried using WASAPI ?
