SpectraLayers license? on Cubase 14

Hello,

I recently upgraded from Cubase 13 to 14. When I tried to use SpectraLayers, I received an error message saying that I don’t have a license for SpectraLayers 8, although version 11 is the correct one.

I was able to use SpectraLayers in Cubase 13 before installing Cubase 14, but now I can’t access it in either version. I recall Greg Ondo mentioning in his Club Cubase Live video, that a SpectraLayers Go license is included with Cubase 14 Pro, but his explanation wasn’t entirely clear.

Could someone clarify this issue?

That is also my understanding. The included version of Spectral Layers used to be marked “One”. It seems this was changed to “Go”. So search for Spectral Layers 11 in your Cubase 14 section in the Steinberg Download Assistant.

I noticed I had version 7 and 8 installed… I never installed newer versions because I thought the app was being updated with Cubase. I uninstalled older versions and installed version 11 from my Cubase downloads, and now it’s working… Thank you!

Great, that helped me as well. I thought Spectralayers would be updated or installed with all other tools when hit “install all” in Download Assistent.

Hi I have just downloaded Spectralayers 12 I have Cubase 14 Pro but I cant activate Spectralayers 12 No License Found can you help with this thanks John

I don’t think there is a version of SL Go 12 yet. You’ll have to stay on 11.0.70 for the time being.

Hi Johnny, I still cant get spectralayers to work, do you have any step by step suggestions on how to fix this issue, I have contacted Cubase but they haven’t replied to me yet, thanks John

Sure.

  1. uninstall Spectral Layers 12
  2. open Steinberg Download Assistant, select your Cubase version on the left hand side and chose to install SL 11.0.70 on the right hand side

Hi Johnny, this what I get when I try to activate SL12 can you help with this issue? Thanks John

Have you bought a license for Spectral Layers 12 (Elements or Pro)?

It shows you entered a download code so you must have bought an upgrade. Problem is more than likely you bought the wrong upgrade. The upgrade from Go is the one you need.

If that’s correct you have to request a refund here and buy the correct upgrade:

Hi Johnny, SL 11 pro update to SL12 pro that’s what I bought with access code and I have Cubase 14 Pro windows 11 64bit is that correct? Thanks John

Can you open Steinberg activation manager and show a screencap of your Spectralayers 11 Pro license.

If you didn’t ever buy Spectralayers Pro 11 then no it’s not right. The version that comes included with Cubase is Spectralayers Go as I said earlier.

Hi Johnny, I did not buy SL 11 pro it came with and upgrade to Cubase 14Pro so I thought I could upgrade to SL12 Pro, thanks for your help in this matter Johnny, I’m not sure what to do to activate SL12 pro but any help would be appreciated. Thank John

As you can see Spectralayers 12 is Gray blanked out.

I’m not Johhny.
I’ve told you twice already the version of Spectralayers that comes with Cubase is Spectralayers Go. So if you want Spectralayers 12 Pro you have to buy Spectralayers Go to Spectralayers Pro update which is quite a bit more expensive.
Ask for a refund on this update because it will never work for you. I gave you the link to do that.

Spectral Layers Pro is NOT included in Cubase Pro.
You don’t have a license of SL Pro, but of SL Go. I understand the names are similiar but they are not the same. Spectral Layers Pro actually costs additional money.

So please, either stop trying to instal SL12 (as you don’t own it) or purchase it.
