Spectralayers Pro 10 ARA2 mode Graphics Corruption


Ive posted this picture of a graphics problem im getting with Spectralayers 10 Pro in ARA mode in Cubase 13 Pro.The standalone version works fine the problem only occurs when used as an extension within Cubase.On loading a Cubase project the Spectralayers extension works fine for a while but after performing a few editing tasks the waveform display area corrupts as shown in the picture.The moment the corruption happens is always when you go back to the Spectralayers editor from another editor eg waveform or midi.All the Spectralayers functions still work and the layers can still be heard during playback but the waveform display area just remains corrupt so its impossible to carry on.After doing abit of research on the net im wondering if this is an OpenGL issue.Ive posted 2 Spectralayers output logs below ,one from the standalone version and the other from the ARA mode within Cubase.I notice in the ARA mode log there are warning entries about “QWidgetWindow(0x2fe09060, name=“QEmbeddedClassWindow”) must be a top level window”.
Here are a couple of things ive tried but had no success in fixing the problem.
1 Tried an old video driver about one year old.
2 Tried the latest Nvidia game ready driver.
3 Tried the latest Nvidia studio driver.
4 Created program profiles for both Cubase and Spectrlayers in the Nvidia Control Panel with varying settings.
5 Switched on and off all DPI scaling.

One last thing ive noticed with this problem is when i first load a cubase project and click on an audio event which uses the Spectralayers extension the editor displays in the lower pane as normal.If i then select a normal audio event (with no extensions) and then reselect the audio event with the Spectralayers extension the Spectralayers editor does not show in the lower pane.I then have to use the work around of clicking the MixConsole tab first and then reclicking the Editor tab to get the editor to show.If i repeat the above process but go from the spectralayers editor to the midi editor and then back to the Spectralayers editor it all works fine.
Well i hope there is enough information here for someone to help fix the problem i would have made a video but you cant post videos when your a new forum member.

Strange, as a NV RTX 3060 is usually pretty safe in term of drivers.
Could you download a free version of Reaper to check if the display is also corrupt when assigning SpectraLayers to an audio clip ?

Hello Robin thanks for the quick response.I tried spectralayers within Reaper like you asked and ive posted the log output file below.Its still showing the WARNING QWidgetWindow(0x1e3a0af0, name=“QEmbeddedClassWindow”) must be a top level window error.I was able to open and close the editor quite a few times with no problems.I was able to do quite a few editing tasks and even use a VST3 plugin and still the display remained intact.But then i opened the editor from a second track i had created and yes it had the same graphics corruption.Switching back to the first track and that now also had corrupt graphics.
I tried one last test with Reaper before i posted this on the forum and got some interesting results.I created 2 audio tracks and assigned Spectralayers to both tracks.I found out that after the graphics became corrupted if you make the editor window very small close it and reopen it the corruption has gone and you can then enlarge the window to normal size.Ive shown this in the picture above where the bottom window has been reduced in size and re-opened.This idea got me thinking if i could try the same trick in Cubase would it work.I loaded a project into Cubase then opened the Spectralayers editor into the external window view and made the window size as small as possible.Now when the graphics corrupt in the lower pane editor i can just open it to the external window then close it back to the lower pane and bingo the corruption dissapears.Not ideal but at least its a work around which will enable me to continue using the editor.Question is does anyone know if this is a Spectralayers problem or is a problem with my graphics settings.

I’ve experience a similar graphics issue with a VST plugin I use. Nvidia 3080Ti but never in SpectraLayers so probably unrelated. I did open a support ticket with the VST developer though so will report back if they find out what causes this.

Hello Sam try the work around i mention in my previous post i know its not ideal but it is working for me.If the plugin allows you to resize its window make it as small as possible ,close the plugin and reopen it.Also sometimes the Host will automatically set the plugin window size so like in Reaper i had to disable that option first.Good luck.
