Spectralayers Pro 11 - Laggy Editing?

Are you using the realtime brush preview? I always had problems with lagging when that is active. Now I got used to not having preview on the tools and frankly I don’t miss it. There is zero lag here, unless I’m using the highest FFT sizes. So IME I’d point all fingers to the realtime brush preview and recommend getting rid of that in your workflows.

It should not lag in any setting on an up to date computer.
This phenomenon shines through a bad technical implementation of the used algorithms.

Selection of datapoints should be in O(1), not in O(n^2) or worse.

SL in its current state is a plethora of bugs.

Yes, I am very disappointed by this program, which deserves much better stability.

Yeah it has quite a lot of bugs, unfortunately. Most of them I consider much more pressing than the realtime brush preview lag discussed here, by the way (if that really is the reason for the lag for you too).

Anyways, I try to point out solutions and workarounds anytime I can. We gotta work, so until the developer sorts things out, workarounds is what we got.

Good luck!

As long as customers try themselves in “workarounds” for years now, nothing will change.

I like the idea of SL, but the actual state of the program still looks like a developers betaversion, like a proof of concept, nothing more.

I did not pay for workarounds and I am not a betatester.

Fair enough.

If you can wait and use other tools in the meantime you are free to do that, of course. And that could very well be the best path for you.

But as buggy as SL (and ARA) may be, for me it is still miles ahead of what I could do in RX, and I have been successfully working around its issues and restoring audio that no one I work for thought would be possible, on time and within budget. What else can I say?

It is buggy but also incredibly powerful and amazing! =)

Yes, I agree. But the adulation of SL is inappropriate, considering its current state with bugs and flaws.

Steinberg should fix (almost) all bugs before trying to implement more and more features.

Every module of SL should work as one can expect without any crashes, glitches or other unwanted sideeffects.

I disagree. It is not that buggy for me. In my use, most problems come from ARA, which is indeed buggy, unfortunately. But SL itself works fairly well for me, specially considering what it can do.

With this I couldn’t agree more. Steinberg needs to get their stuff together regarding bug solving and stability in certain processes.
