Hi, I like to record SFX with an MS mic (Schoeps MK 41+8 and CMC 6XL) plus a Sanken CO100k mic. That’s why I have to import a 3 channel multi WAV file into Nuendo frequently.
What I normally would do is right-click on the files and split channels. Then Nuendo would split those channels and have them stacked on top of each other on my import-track (which is a 3-channle layout converted to a stereo output - like shown in the screenshots).
Then I would need to select all separated files and drag & drop them into empty space in to create a new channel. I would do this with all 3 separated files. For some reason, Nuendo would create a 3-channel track, when I need it to create a mono track for each file, because I need to mix the signals together and apply MS-decoding. So I would need to create 3 mono tracks now. drag the files onto them, and then I route and pan things accordingly. This workflow seems cumbersome and ineffective. Is there a better way to get things done faster?
This is very much needed and discussed every other week.
This is kind of disappointing…
I might be misunderstanding the question, but have you tried using Convert Tracks instead? IE drop the multichannel file(s) on a track which makes a multichannel track. Then select the track, and go to the Project pulldown menu and select Convert Tracks > Multichannel to Mono, select options to taste, and click OK.
This should split all the parts on the track into 3 separate tracks, all mono, and pannable in whatever output configuration you’re set to. Example:
Yellow track is an example LCR 3-channel (I’m using the same file but have it cut up into multiple parts to represent an edited track with possibly a bunch of stuff) and the greens are what Channel Convert made.
But that might not be what you’re really asking - other threads I believe are wanting a way to treat a multichannel track as “virtual multi-mono tracks” without having to actually physically split them, so you can treat the multichannel still as one part for editing. Maybe. I don’t know
@ManChicken yes that is an option but doubles the amount of data and it doesn’t solve the core issue (a lack of complete multichannel support with feats like virtual mono channel regions). It would make Nuendo so much easier and faster to use.
@samllvillee which version of nuendo are you running? In N13 you can now make stereo tracks act like mono so your co100k channel can be mono (it looks like a stereo track).
13.0.51… yeah the problem is, that N13 automatically creates ST tracks when I drag the split files onto empty space… very annoying.
I guess that what I’m looking after is the “virtual mono” functionality for poly wavs…
I wonder if this can be used as a workaround: SigMod | NUGEN Audio
You could just make mono tracks beforehand, drag to them, then click the mono button on the track and you are set.
I know it’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s somehow cumbersome and I feel like this workflow is taking too much time.
