I added the fermata to the half rest and then added the quarter in the timpani. Dorico was smart enough to understand that the fermata should be on beat 3, so that was impressive.
you could force a quarter rest EDIT: in this case @benwiggy’s suggestion is easier :
activate the caret and put the cursor where the rest begins
press following: , (comma) O (letter) 6Y or Z
Comma activates rest input
O activates force duration
6 sets the value to quarter note
Y or Z (depending on your keyboard language) inputs the rest (you can use any other letter), or just click with the mouse on that rhythmic position
Yes I agree. I tried it but, as U is untie, and rest are not “tied” , didn’t work. @jesper EDIT:actually U is for split, so it would be desirable it to work
Yes this is the function I was testing (that unfortunately doesn’t seem to work with implicit or whole bar rests. It works with explicit rests though ).
But you do know that you can split a note by the grid with alt-u?
If you want a bar with 16-notes, create a whole note and alt-u with the grid set to 16-notes
