Stability issue with Cubase 13

I use Cubase for both composing/ recording and live work [I tried VST Live but couldn’t see how to import cpr files into it]. Anyhooo… I had a lot of Cubase 12 projects on the go that I imported into Cubase 13 and saved them as new versions. Then the fun ‘n’ games started with Cubase 13 gumming up with a ‘Cubase 13 has become unstable, save your project with a new name’ splash screen and it taking ages to respond to anything to get it to shut down. Sometimes this would happen while recording [not such a big deal but annoying] or in the middle of a live performance [a literal showstopper]. I haven’t been able to put a pin on any possible cause and it’s been more or less random. The pop-up splash screen has appeared:
1] When loading a project
2] While a project is rolling
3] While a project is stopped

There does not appear to be any causality between any particular project being active and Cubase 13 becoming unstable. Also, there have been no hardware changes to my computer between running Cubase 12 and Cubase 13. Suffice to say that I have gone back to using Cubase 12 for live work and will soldier on with Cubase 13 for studio work for the time being although I may have to roll back if I start losing too much of my work as rebuilding stuff from memory rapidly becomes an annoying waste of time.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? And, if so, are there any known reliable workarounds?

Hi,

Attach some of the *.dmp files, please.

FWIW, for my live work the only plugins I use are stock Steinberg plugins that are bundled with Cubase and Groove Agent 5. For Studio work I mostly use Steinberg, Native Instruments and Arturia FX + VSTi plugins.

Hi,

Reported to Steinberg.

Could you please provide more info about your system? Thank you.

i7 10700 CPU w/liquid cooling, Asus PRIME B460-PLUS mobo, 24GB DDR4-2400 Corsair RAM, Zotac RTX 3050, 512GB WD Blue SSD, 4TB Seagate HDD, DVD/Blu-Ray R/W.

This setup is 3 years old although I added the graphics card earlier this year.

Audio Interface: Behringer X-18. I have had this mixer/interface combi for 6 years and it’s never given me any trouble.

And it’s a big no from me for 13.02. Got the same old stability issue while loading tracks up for this evening’s show. So it’s back to 12.07 for live work for me :-

Hi,

Attach the mentioned *.dmp file, please.

Cubase 13.0.20 64bit2023.12.15 20.10.31.764.dmp (1.6 MB)
I hope that helps.

Hi,

The crash is the same as one (or more) of the crashes from the previous list.

Yes, it may be exactly the same but it was a new crash with Cubase Pro 13.02. I know it’s frustrating for you as it is for me but I’m fine with continuing with Cubase Pro 12.07 until the issue [whatever exactly it might be] is resolved.

Hi,

Sorry, this is what I mean. It’s a new crash in the same area, you had a crash already.

Presently trialling the Demo. Quite similar here - apart from thre common complaints abur plugin compatibility, UI redesign etc - stability is a very mixed bag in my experience & also hard to track down. Is not consistent & same project may load or crash and FWIW, in trying to change the sample rate. On macos Sonoma 14.2 or Monterey 12.7.2.

One thing that helped me a little - installing and auto-importing C12 prefs is a dog’s breakfast. I got closer to better behaviour in ditching those prefs and building C13 prefs from scratch (if a little lengthy & boring). Still, the sudden hang can be still there - variously: opening a previously saved C13 project, or importing a C12 project.or importing a Nuendo 12 project.

MacPro 7,1, 16 core, 192GB, MacOS 14.2, Vega II Duo. Apollo x8, UAD-2, Antelope Pure 2, Antelope Orion 32+. RAID-4 Thunderbay 6, RAID-0 Sonnet M.2 4x4. MiniMon 4k, Dell U3415W & BenQ SW2700PT. FaderPort 16, NI S61, Cubase, Nuendo, Pro Tools, Logic, Luna, DaVinci Resolve Studio.

Hello [profdraper]! I use Windows 11 and am familiar with the routine of deleting one’s existing Cubase preferences folder and letting it rebuild it all over again. That said, it’s something I try to avoid resorting to as it’s somewhat drastic action. If, however, Steinberg recommend it as a fix for the stability issue, I’d go ahead with it

Yes, it’s the same stability crash every time. Other than that it’s fine.

Hi,

Cubase 13.0.40 with the fix has been released.
