Stability under 7.0.4?

Anyone else experiencing crashes since upgrading to 7.0.4 on OSX 10.8.x?

Third one tonight while working with a newly recorded vocal track. Also auto backup files are saying they cannot be opened because they were ‘created with Cubase 1.x’ and ‘This program version cannot load it.’

Last crash was while trying to CMD+Option+S to save which would have chosen a filename chosen by the auto-backup recovery. (i.e. it was up to version 08, auto backup had renamed a version to 09 and 10, from version 08 I CMD+Option+S which would have tried to save 09, crash).

…while typing this I just loaded up version 08 - crash.

FFS.

*edit - forget the filename clash supposition - I just relocated the backup files that don’t work, loaded up version 08, immediately tried to save it and crash.

not crashes but 7.4 is the first version where my mixer is messed up. sometimes my whole right side is gone and even checked the MASTER LED section is gone

and alot of my tracks on the right hand side, and even if i minimize the tracks to their narrowest they are just gone

…panic over -

In the Audio folder, I deleted some zero byte audio files - tried that but still crashing.

Backed up project, ‘minimising’ audio files, opened the new version, now I can save again.

I think I’ve found a bug within Cubase when it encounters a certain type of problem file.

…and now this is happening with another project. If I simply open it then try to save, crash.

This project was last opened in 2010, so was produced with Cubase 6.5.x

Anyone else seeing this behaviour…?

Aloha F,

No new 7.0.4 probs here with either:

1-Desktop in the studio.
2-Laptop live on stage.

There is a new small graphic prob with the ‘Info Line’
on the laptop. (but the laptop uses OSX7.5)

But no show stoppers.

Hope you get it sorted.
{‘-’}

Ok - load up project from 2010 - Save As → CRASH

Remove all ‘unused’ audio files from pool → Save As → CRASH

Remove all VSTis → Save As → CRASH

Remove all SSL plugins (I’ve been having some license problems with their code meter thing) → Save As → CRASH

Load up same project in Cubase 6.5.3 → Save As → Saved.

Something is not right with version 7.

Create empty project in 6.5.3 → Save.

Open same project in v7.0.4 → Save As → Saved.

My beef now with 7.04 is when attempting to lengthen the mixer by draging to the right …the mixer starts to increase in height as well. Grrrr!

RIGHT.

After two wasted evenings of messing around, I’ve discovered what I believe to be a serious bug in C7. I cannot (yet) reproduce it (I’m a bit strapped for time right at this moment) but I understand what will cause it.

ISSUE:

Let’s say we have a C6.5.3 project with shared copies of audio files in the pool. Some may have been processed, and a ‘new version’ created, however they reference the same audio file. (Edits are stored in the ‘Edits’ folder in the project folder). There may be other non-shared audio files in the pool.

In Cubase the shared copies appear with the same name, but with a number in brackets after them. i.e.

Audio 01
Audio 01 (2)
Audio 01 (3)

etc.

If I load up such a project into C7.0.4, then simply try to save as, it immediately crashes. (I did try rolling back to 7.0.3 - same problem). It gets as far as creating the new filename, but when attempting to load it it displays an error that it was ‘created with Cubase 1.x’ and cannot be loaded.

If I remove all items from the pool that reference the same file (so I remove Audio 01, Audio 01 (2), etc. but leave other audio files) then it doesn’t crash when I try to save. It does not matter if the files actually exist or not.

The ONLY thing that stops the crash, is removing all references to shared copies of files. The files do not have to be deleted, only removed from the pool.

If I use the Finder to copy the .cpr project file only into a new folder, load it up, I get warnings that files are missing, click through them (so I have an open project with items in the pool, but the audio files are missing), try to save, CRASH. Load it up, remove the shared references, saves fine.

I tried to reproduce this behaviour by making a file in C6, making shared copies, loading into C7, but it saves without crashing. Something is very wrong here.
