I thought I was getting better at understanding the page format thing, but clearly I don’t get it. After setting up the piano part in the Layout page the first page looks exactly as I would expect but pages two and three the staff spacing is far to wide. Consequently I have one system on page four when I obviously have room to reduce it to a three page part at the very most. What do I need to learn to correct this? Thanks so much for your time.
It might help to see the project – can you share it here?
What’s your gap between systems in Layout Options?
It’s set at 8, but I’m never sure which of the gap options I’m trying to set. I tried dropping the number to 5 in several of the optional settings and none of them made any difference.
You’ve only got one instrument here, so most of the gaps won’t affect anything, as they apply to staves next to other staves.
Only two settings are relevant: the one for braced staves, and the last one for inter-system gap.
Well I just tried drastically reducing those numbers and it still hasn’t collapsed the piano part to three pages. So far it’s just the piano part that I want to adjust, so it’s the only part that’s highlighted on the right side of layout options. I’ve tried to tighten it up manually but after reducing the gap size on page two I can’t get the staves on page three to move over to page two.
Can you upload the project?
Thanks to all who responded. I went back in and adjusted the staves per page and I got very close to what I was looking for. The piano part is now three pages instead of four. I appreciate your insights!
@arranger2
Good that you managed somehow to obtain what you need.
But nevertheless (since Casting-off/System per page is still a forcing procedure), if you are willing to share your project posting it here, maybe we can give advices on other methods to handle layout, using the automatic features of Dorico, and maybe you (and others) can discover variations and different possible workflows .
