Hi, I’m not sure if I’m failing to search properly, but this seems like something that would be covered by somebody by now.
I have (many) scores that start at odd numbers, like 253, or 957 etc. I’d like to have just a couple bars of rest at the start of the score, rather than 956.
So for example, visually, you’d see 2 bars of rest, and then the music starts and it’s labeled as m957 and then continues normally.
This happens because of recording for film/tv where the composer has set up their music at some point in the timeline. I need to match up with their bar numbers, but it would just look visually nicer on the page if it didn’t display the huge number of rests.
If I haven’t applied the bar number change (so it starts from 1), the number doesn’t appear, just the number range. Which is great, and how I’d like it.
I’ve tried looking at “numbered bar regions” but that doesn’t seem applicable. I don’t see anything for showing the first bar number of a multi rest when ranges are enabled either (it doesn’t seem like something anyone would ever want, when the bar number is included in the range?)
If you want your music to start at bar 200, and you have two added empty bars before that, select something at the very beginning (the time signature or the rest of the first empty bar. Make a Bar Number Change (to 198). That bar number will now be displayed at the beginning. If you don’t want it to be visible, you can set the property accordingly. Your music will start at bar 200. If you also want to have the bar number 200 be visible, make another “Bar Number Change” at bar 200, but don’t change the actual number.
How far is this from what you would like?
I selected the meter to do this, so I think I’ve done what you’re saying. But I don’t want the bar number displayed at the beginning because that’s already covered by the range indication.
Ah, thank you! My key commands have betrayed me. I assigned a command for the “hide” toggle, which works for most things. But this toggle isn’t like other “hide” toggles, as it’s named differently. So my key command didn’t work, and I didn’t think it might be because it’s just a different label.
Works great! I still don’t see why it would override the multi-rest range indicator by default; I don’t see why anyone would want the number displayed twice. But this certainly allows for getting the right look.
