Staves overlapping - appears to be a file corruption

There’s a place in my score where a couple of percussion measures suddenly overlap with the brass. It isn’t an entire system (I would be able to fix that in Engrave mode), but just random measures. Screenshot attached. Any ideas how to fix?

Welcome to the forum, @sarahflutist!

At a guess, have you moved any of the staves on that page in Engrave mode? Otherwise, it’s hard to diagnose something like this without seeing the actual project file. Since you’re a new forum user, you probably aren’t yet able to upload files, but I think you could upload it to Dropbox or something similar and then post a link here.

How to acquire posting rights, etc.

Thanks @asherber! Apparently I can’t add links, so I’m not sure how to show you more. Yes, i most likely did move staves in Engrave mode. If that’s the case, do you have a suggestion for how to fix it?

If you spend a little time on the site reading different posts, then your trust level will increase (your profile says that you’ve only spent 5 minutes here). Then you can upload files and/or post links. I think you’ll see a notification on the site when you trust level increases.

One thing you can try is to go into Engrave mode and select the staff spacing tool in the left toolbar. If you see any red boxes or lines, then you have moved things manually. In that case, select the graphic editing tool again, select any item on the page, and do Engrave > Staff Spacing > Reset Selected Frames.

If that doesn’t clear things up, then I think we’ll need to see your project file.

That does seem to have cleared it up, thanks so much!

Thanks also for telling me about the trust level. I’ve actually read the forums for dozens of hours, probably, but without logging in. I didn’t realize that I should do that, but I get it.

Right – if you’re not logged in, then the forum software doesn’t know it’s you!
