Steinberg Download Assistant error

Dear all,

I am trying to open Steinberg Download Assistant Setup but I alwas get an error. Also, I see this message when I open Dorico 5. Can someone help me with it?

Are you saying, Carlos, that you’re unable to even install Steinberg Download Assistant on your Mac? What is the nature of the error that you’re seeing?

The message Dorico is showing you is telling you that all of the sound content is missing. From this page on our web site:

you can download almost everything: unfortunately at present HALion Symphonic Orchestra is not downloadable from that page. So we should definitely try to get SDA working on your Mac.

Exactly. When I open the “Steinberg Download Assistant Setup” it quits “unexpectedly”:

also: I already installed the files on the website, but the message showed is the same.

If you run Steinberg Library Manager, do you see all of those content packs listed as expected?

Can you please send me the SDA crash logs? Perhaps my colleagues who work on SDA will be able to say what’s going wrong. You will find them in ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports. I’m not sure what their filenames will be, but hopefully they will be obvious.

One remote possibility is that SDA won’t run because Rosetta isn’t yet installed on your Mac. Could you try running Terminal and then paste in this command:

softwareupdate –install-rosetta

If Rosetta isn’t installed, this command will install it. Try running the SDA installer again after that – any joy?

Hello again, I still didn’t manage to install the SDA.
Also, I couldn’t find the SDA crash logs… regarding S Library Manager, this is what I see there:

is it this file?
osx-x86_64-2024-12-13-131207.ips (21.5 KB)
osx-x86_64-2024-12-13-130707.ips (21.6 KB)

Sorry for the delay in returning to this thread. Yes, those do indeed look like the crash logs for the SDA setup process. I will ask my colleagues who look after SDA whether they have any idea what might be going wrong on your system.

thanks!

My colleagues in the SDA team have seen this problem on at least one other machine. They think there might be an incompatibility between the VMWare installer technology used to build the SDA installer and the latest version of macOS, though it’s unclear why this would only affect a small number of computers. (Our ref: DUS-5332.)

Could you please see if there are any log files in /Library/Logs/Steinberg/Download Assistant, and if so, zip them up and provide them to us?

Do you get any visual feedback at all from the SDA installer before it crashes? If so, can we get a screenshot of what you see?

I do not see any log file…

Also no visual feedback from SDA (well, the icon bounces… and then it stops (disappearing))

OK, thanks for checking. Unfortunately for the time being I don’t think there is anything further you can do to get SDA installed on your computer.

I’m having the same problem When I start Dorico I get the same list of programs that aren’t install, although they are and were working before. I have 2 homes and 2 computers. When I move back and forth I copy all the files from each computer and copy then to the other when I get there. I tried to run Steinberg Download Assistant and I get the following.

My internet connection is fine, I’m doing this and connecting. I just tried Download Assistant several time, in addition to running the Download installer again. When I update each computer I copy the Steinberg Folder from Library; Application Support, as well as my Dorico documents folder and the Dorico folder from Documents.
I can open Dorcio and my documents, but they don’t play. The sound apps are in the same folder on both computer, right where they were originally installed.

I also get nothing in the Library Manager as well.

I’m running Ventura 13.7.1 on both computers.

For your specific error, @scarryer, I suspect the issue is that your installed version of SDA is out of date. Please try downloading and installing the latest version from here:

Windows: https://www.steinberg.net/sda-win
macOS: https://www.steinberg.net/sda-mac

I got the new version of SDA and installed it, which installed Dorico again. There are check marks for all of the items. But I’m still getting the error that all the sound apps are missing. Is there a way to have Dorico find them, or do I have to re-install all of them again?

I decided to reinstall everything again and almost everything is back to normal, except I still get a message that Olympus Choir Micro is not available and to use SDA to install it. I did that 3 times and it still isn’t showing up!!

Hi @scarryer, please have a look under
Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Content/VST Sound

Is there a subfolder called VST Sound - Soundiron and is in that folder a file called Soundiron_Olympuss_Micro.vstsound with a size of around 439MB?

This is what I found.

Soundiron_Olympus_Micro (1).vstsound

It’s an alias, 101. bytes.
