Steinberg Download Assistant - NOT WORKING!

Not sure which thread to add this to so…
I don’t us SDA often enough to memorize what I consider to be most annoying but I do seem to remember that when you click “install” on some items it just downloads the item and you have to seek out the dmg and install it manually. Even thogh SDA makes it seem like you’re done.

My experience this morning:

  • Prompt: “You must update Download Assistant”
  • ok
  • asks for computer admin password.
  • it updates
  • Dialogue appears; Login failed
  • I sign in again
  • After sign in, I get a prompt: “Allow this site to open the net-steinberg-sda link with Steinberg web launcher”
  • “Sign in” flashes again.
  • request prompt for computer admin password again.

I tried to download Groove agent 5 from my Absolute window in “My product Downloads” window…
It’s now stuck at 31.13GB of 31.14GB. Status bar says 0 mbs. My SSD is still blinking. I hit pause, my SSD stops blinking. I hit resume my SSD begins blinking again. “open Folder” shows me 19 items. They all look like they finished but one item, The_Kit_Samples.vstsound.sda-download.aria2, shows only 2KB data size. That can’t be right.

So what do I do now?

Also,
There should be one window in Download assistant that shows all INCLUDED items for your respective version of Cubase, both software and libraries… And then a window for items available for purchase.
Other than the “My Products downloads” window I never know what I am entitled to for free, what I own, what is redundant, what is for sales…

Update:

  • After about 20 minutes I receive 3 warning dialogues.
  • The content folder now contains only 15 items and when I close the warnings SDA “looks” like I completed successfully.
  • The 2KB file, “The_Kit_Samples.vstsound.sda-download.aria2” is no longer there.

Yeah, well, seeing how I have about 500 metres of Cat5 cable in boxes around the house as well as all the cabling I’ve laid in and it’s never given me any problems in the past, I’ve stuck to the old ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ approach. Do I know how to configure my router correctly? Well, more or less, as it seems to work just fine for everything else.

FWIW, I never had any problems with the Download Assistant until recently.

Update 2.
So I compared the folders referenced in the above warning dialogues. I notice that on my internal drive I have aliases of most of the vstsound files from this most recent installation. In the attached screenshot, the left is my external SSD where most of my samples reside, the right side is the internal library.

This appears to be a conflict in the way SDA handled my recent installation of Groove Agent 5 content that came with my recently purchased Absolute package.

The 3 items in the warning dialogue DO appear to be in my internal library as aliases:
FCP_SMT_145_GA_Perc.vstsound
FCP_SMT_782_GA_Raw_Power_Instruments
FCP_SMT_774_GA_The_Kit_Samples_Eco

However, these were NOT created as aliases in my internal library:
FCP_SMT_138_Groove_Agent
FCP_SMT_144_GA_Presets
FCP_SMT_772_GA_The_Kit_Presets

You’ll also notice 3 full installs on my internal, certainly when I installed Groove Agent SE with Cubase 13.

This is what I posted back on Feb 27th regarding Version 1.35 on my Mac, If anyone wants to give this a try.
After downloading and installing the SDA latest version as suggested, I always got the server error message no matter how many times I downloaded and installed it.
Eventually I tried downloading the latest version to my iPhone and then transferred it to my iMac. Success, everything went according to plan.
Hope this works for anyone having the same issues.

This is what I get when downloading from here :face_with_raised_eyebrow: : Steinberg Download Assistant | Steinberg

You are showing the license Agreement, not the Version number of the SDA.

Ok well I’m unable to get that far to make sure. I’m still seeing this after the download but thought it had something to do with it? Thanks!

Did you download the latest release from here

No I but just tried it and got the same thing. I hope they fix this as I really don’t have the time or energy for this back and forth online. I’m going to sit this one out and wait for a proper fix! Thanks again!

Are you sure that your connection is not blocked by a firewall, a VPN or even a overly sensible virus scanner?

The message says it can not connect to the download server, which typically means that something on the way from your computer to the destination is blocking and, because many other users can obviously connect I would first start searching the computer and the network.

However, you can also download everything directly from the support pages.

Cool, glad that it now works for you. it would b enice if you ould mark my posting as Solution

I wonder why this should cause a problem when there are no issues downloading direct from the Steinberg website.

Can someone do this for me as I’m don’t see the spanner when clicking on the 3 dots …

Oh man… Yes it was the VPN Connection. Thanks for helping
