I have been repeatedly having an issue with the Steinberg Download Assistant not working properly. This happened last week for a while, then it worked for a bit, but now it is not working again.
I want to update some components but I am being hindered repeatedly.
THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING!
Thanks glennloopez! I did know about that other page but I wanted to bring this to Steinberg’s attention. Btw, even the old Download page that you have linked to does not work properly!
For Cubase stuff, here’s the only page that actually works:
@STEINBERG: when will these issues be rectified? This is a serious problem!
Same here. It self-updated a few days ago but for the past 3 days, it holds at launch requesting a “sign in”. When sign-in button pressed, a Steinberg webpage should come up but doesn’t even open a browser.
The SDA is one of the worst pieces of software I’ve ever used. It’s never worked as it should since it’s introduction. Connection issues, incomplete download issues, not showing all my purchased software… I can’t believe there’s a team of 10 working on this.
Currently it says I need to update it, so I click to go ahead. Something gets downloaded, somewhere, Heaven only knows what or where, then nothing. Wait a few minutes, then open it again. Same message, same nonsense.
It’ll be a total nightmare if Steinberg takes the download page away.
Oh boy, I certainly hope they see the importance of resolving these issues!
I should add that I really enjoy the workflow in Cubase and Dorico and the products themselves are great. But it’s a tough business model when purchasers cannot download and install the products on offer. And it seems that this is not a new problem.
So how is your Internet connected? Do you have firewall or VPN running? Are there any adblocker extensions in your browser, have you tried a different browser?
I’ve tried the link from two different networks and both work perfectly fine.
But now I got my SDA to work on my Win 11 laptop too!
So why or how? Well:
My internet wifi connection is through a Wifi exstender (Amplifi.com) and some meshpoints (connected via my power outlets). All 3 computers are connected to these meshpoints and have been working perfectly for 2 years; that includes all Steinberg app/programs (Cubase, Wavelab, SDA and so on). Suddenly 1 month ago The SDA stopped working, but all other apps/programs was still ok. The few last days I have disconnected my comps from the meshpoints and connected them directly to the internet providers routers Wifi, and suddenly all is well. I don’t know why, but that’s the case here.
Maybe someone can put a light on why this happens!
Jon
The first login from the SDA or the Authentication Manager redirect to the browser for a login. This is required to check the account in the Steinberg profile, so here you can get the first issue. For example a browser plugin that blocks so called third party cookies or popup windows can (not necessarily, but…) be a reason for failed connections.
I think the SDA will not need the browser (which can be used as a plugin service) anymore, but I don’t know the internals of this app.
Very interesting router and repeater system, haven’t heard from Amplifi before, but that looks pretty nice.
What you have is a Mesh network and some of them via powerline communication. If the connection works after connecting it to the WLAN directly, avoiding the powerline connection, it looks like there is some configuration that blocks access here.
The problem is, this is something that can be anything and without access to these meshpoints it is more or less impossible to figure out what is happening. If it worked for 2 years and suddenly it stopped I would first of all look if there has been any update to the software of the Amplifi components, but that is also a wild guess.
My computers [desktop PC + laptop] connect to the internet via gigabit Cat5 Ethernet LAN cable to my Netgear Nighthawk router which, in turn, is connected to an optical cable modem.
