I just downloaded the latest Download Assistant prior to downloading the latest cubase 13 as well as content not yet implemented. The download speed using wifi was < 6mb/s according to the Assistant. When I plugged in a direct network cable this improved only slightly to 12 mb/s. When I then used Broadband Speed Checker it recorded 152 mb/s. Why is the Assistant speed so different. Some folk have said they have not used Assistant and downloaded direct from the Steinberg website but surely it is crazy that folk need to do this.
There’s more than one Steinberg download server in the world so it might just be a slowdown in your region.
I just tried it here in Canada and I’m getting between 50 to 60 Mb/s right now.
Hi Simon
The Steinberg Download Assistant shows the download speed in MB/s, but most Broadband Speed Checkers (e.g. Ookla) show the speed in Mbps.
8 Mbps = 1 MB/s
My Results
Steinberg Download Assistant 30MB/s maximum.
Ookla Speed Test 300 Mbps maximum.
Thanks Richard I hadn’t realised there were two units of measure. However this still doesn’t explaing why Download Assistant gave readings of less than 6 Mbps… I’ve noticed this low value when making previous downloads. I’ll continue to monitor it. Many downloads are several GBs so it can take an age.
I’m getting 0.2625 MB/s. I have been downloading to a brand new Mac mini for over 9 hours and have 2 of 11 things that have downloaded. I may have physically take my system somewhere to download these things. Even after waiting 45 minutes, it will appear to finish and give me this message. Makes me long for the days when apps came on a disk!
This particular folder has 44 files like FCP_SMT_001_HS_Synths_01.vstsound or
FCP_SMT_073_HS_Muted_Trumpet_01.vstsound, so has a download worked? There is no dmg file
