Steinberg License Engine eLicenser Control Error protection device lost errors

Hello, please see screenshot of the error - eLicenser Control - Error - Application ‘Steinberg License Engine’ has caused the following error: Connection to protection device lost.

We’re on latest software: Cubase 13.0.20 (in Apple Silicone mode), Dorico 5.1.21, Mac Studio with recent Sonoma upgrade on v 14.3.1

I have swapped out the elicenser key, and also swapped in a new USB hub, none of that helped so it doesn’t seem to be a hardware issue.

Haven’t been able to isolate a cause or situation that causes it, but it’s happening somewhat frequently. I thought it maybe corresponded with launching Dorico while Cubase is open, but wasn’t able to recreate in that scenario. Other threads regarding similar errors are older and do not seem to address this exact error. Any insight would be appreaciated

You probably need to run the elicenser app in Rosetta mode.

Neither of those programs use the Elicenser. Use they use the Steinberg Activation Manager.

Steve thank you for your reply. I’ve run both SAM and ELC in Rosetta but the issue persists, seems to trigger mostly with Dorico. The other day it triggered when the Dorico window was resized, but otherwise still unsure of what triggers it and only a machine restart makes it go away.

Why are you using the USB key?

That’s a great question, until the other day it had Halion 6 but we just upgraded to 7 which is on SAM. There are some legacy Halion libraries on there (Padshop, Zero Gravity, Granular x, etc) that still require it I think but we don’t really use them so we’ll remove the key and see if that helps
