Steinberg license

Hello
Sorry to appear stupid, I find myself totally confused by Steinberg’s explanation of the e-license change to Steinberg License. As I understand it, the new license means your software is licensed by you signing into it with your Steinberg ID and pass, as opposed to what they call the “e licenser control centre”.

I bought Cubase Elements 13 at the beginning of this month, having never had a Steinberg product before, but I have the e licenser control centre as part of the bundle, and my license shows in there. Does this mean that I do not have the new Steinberg licence, which I understood was on every release from November 2023? (My version is from June 2024)

It seems to me that the e licenser is the thing that Steinberg are saying will be defunct early 2025, but it seems that I have a software called “e licenser”, which contains my activation code. I am so confused

Sorry! Thankyou in advance
Steve

If this is really the first Steinberg product you bought, It simply does not apply to you at all. The elicenser app is installed for backward compatibility.

Post a screenshot of the elicenser so people can help you. It’s actually not possible that a Cubase 13 license would be displayed in the elicenser app. Since Cubase 12 only the Steinberg Activation Manager shows licensing.

That’s very helpful. Thank you!

So, I have Cubase Pro 11 (not upgradable to Steinberg Licensing). Can I just pay to upgrade to 13 and say “bye” to the dongle?

I’m personally staying on the dongle at Cubase 11 but yes I believe so. If nothing else is sitting on the elicenser you won’t need a dongle going forward as Cubase 13 uses the new licensing system that is dongle free and also allows you to install Steinberg products on up to three computers. I think what you want to do falls under thae banner of ‘update’ from here:

Hi
Thanks for your reply, I think I get it now, I can see my Cubase version in the Activation Manager. The issue that confused me was that there appeared to be something showing in the e licenser, but I guess I misunderstood what I was looking at (see attached)
Cheers :+1:
