Steinberg SLM macOS version is intel only instead of universal binary

Hi, the latest version of Steinberg SLM of website “CUBASE 15 Downloads” is intel only instead of universal binary.

Hi kurtg,

This is a valid concern about Apple Silicon support. You’re correct that MediaBay should ideally be available as a universal binary to run natively on Apple Silicon Macs without relying on Rosetta 2 emulation.

Here are some steps you can take:

  1. Check for Updates: Make sure you have the latest version of MediaBay installed from the Steinberg Download Assistant. Steinberg frequently updates MediaBay, and a newer version may include native Apple Silicon support.

  2. Workaround: If you’re running on an Apple Silicon Mac, the Intel-only version will run under Rosetta 2 emulation, which should work but may have a slight performance impact.

  3. Report to Steinberg Support: I recommend reporting this issue directly to Steinberg support at https://www.steinberg.net/support/ with details about your Mac model and operating system version. They can provide information about whether a native Apple Silicon version is planned or if there are any known issues.

  4. Check System Requirements: According to Steinberg’s official compatibility documentation, native Apple Silicon support for MediaBay has been available in recent versions. If you’re not seeing this in the latest download, it may be a specific issue worth reporting.

This is important feedback for Steinberg, so providing details to their support team will help prioritize native Apple Silicon support.

Best regards

FYI, my C15Pro bits, including MediaBay, installed as native Apple Silicon with standard download via SDA 1.39.3 and automatic identification of macOS.

Same, no Rosetta anywhere over here, C13/14/15/etc are all ARM native.

I re-installed 2 times from the download page of Cubase 15 Pro, same result.
With the SDA, how can I retrigger the installation of Library Manager ?

Oh, you said MediaBay, not the library manager. The actual SLM and SDA apps themselves are still Intel for now, which is inconsequential. Cubase itself though, and all sub components, are native Apple Silicon.

Next version of MacOS is without intel cpu support. Rosetta2 dies in 2027.

@Martin.Jirsak Hi Martin, the support link https://www.steinberg.net/support/ leads to a 404. The actual support page is a .de address.
