Steps needed to get Artist 10.5 program and data/projects/VST's to a new computer?

I need to move my Cubase Artist 10.5 program and all the associated info (templates, VST instr, project folders, etc.) to a new computer. With the eLicenser, Activ Mgr, , Download Asst, and Library Mgr, I’m not quite sure what the correct sequence is to get everything running on the new PC. I have a dongle that came with Artist 10.5.
I’ve read some of the posts here about moving info to a new PC, but it’s still a bit fuzzy on what the steps should be.
I’d appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks.
Jeff

Make sure all your drivers for video/audio etc are installed first.

Download and install the SDA:

This also install all the other bits and pieces.
Plug your dongle in!
Then install Cubase and your plugins.
Then your projects/templates.

That’s roughly it.

Hi G_Smythe -
Thanks for getting back to me with this info.
So, I need to back up the VST’s and projects and templates from wherever they are on my old PC and then put them in the same corresponding folder that will be created when I download from the SDA? Do I need to create that folder, they don’t come over with the new installation? Do I have to reinstall the VST’s or can I just copy the folder they are in on the old PC and then paste that folder in the new place on the new PC? Do I need to do anything with the eLicenser program or the Activation Mgr, putting in that long code I hope I still have somewhere…?
Sorry, I’m a piano player and only somewhat knowledgabale about this technical stuff.
Thanks, I do sppreciate your time and help.

Thanks

And I’m just a hobbyist!
Anyway, this is how I did it a couple of years ago.
1: Software
After all your drivers for video etc, install Steinberg’s Download Assistant. The program will also install the e-Licenser, the Library Manager and the Activation Manager.
Then install Cubase. I ALWAYS download Cubase from the website. I NEVER use the SDA unless I really have to.
All plugins and VSTis are going to have to be installed - you can’t just copy them over. So get all your licences in order, whether they be codes or whatever. So install them last.

2: Projects and Templates
My templates are stored in C:\Users[Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 11_64\Project Templates. I always back these up to my Projects folder. Do the same.
At the same time, copy your Cubase settings folder (C:\Users[Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 10_64) to your projects folder.
And then…
I just took the old hard drive and put it into the new one and assigned the old drive letter to it. If you can’t do that. get a USB memory stick that’s has enough room for your projects and copy them to the stick then to the new computer. (This is also a way to keep backups.) Put the Templates in your User folder. Put your backup Settings folder in your User folder.

Run the e-Licenser and do the Maintenance checks.
Make sure the dongle is plugged in, then run Cubase. A good few of my plugins can only be activated/validated the first time they are added to a project - Valhalla reverbs, for instance. So load them up last into an empty project (which doesn’t need saving).

That’s all I can think of at the moment. The real trick is to know where everything is now so that you can add it all to the new computer.

Yes, I’m a piano hobbyist. I got the program a few years ago and use it basically to play along with the songs I like, I’m kind of an early intermediate player. So many bells and whistles in CB, it’s difficult to get a handle on it so I keep it simple.

I appreciate the info and your time in explaining this. My new PC is coming next week , I’ll keep you posted on how the move goes.

Thanks again.

I realize this is an older post but I thought give it a shot since the same question has been on my mind for awhile.

Specifically for Googly_Smythe

After the new computer is setup, ready to go, and SDA is downloaded, I’d need to go to Steinberg Downloads, then to the unsupported software page. Am I correct in assuming that I simply download CB 10.5 and take it from there? (As long as my USB dongle is plugged in?)

Apparently I’d need to do any upgrades the same way…all the way up to CB Artist 10.5.30?

PS: Sounds like a lot of hoops to jump thru but in my book it’s worth it since I have no intentions of paying for upgrades to CB Pro. I’ve been using Steinberg products since it was called PRO24 (MIDI ONLY) Went to Cubase Le and now CB Artist. Around 40 years using Steinberg products!!! Quite frankly, one would think Steinberg would give us LONG TIME users some sort of break.

Unless you really have to use it (because a very few items do require it) I would avoid the SDA like the plague. Just download what you need from the Downloads web page.

NO Steinberg software requires both systems installed, just one or the other.
If you don’t have products that use the new licencing system, do not install it! Only newer software requires it (Cubase 12 and up, HALion 7 (NOT Sonic 7!), and the newer libraries released since the new system was introduced).
Cubase 11 and earlier just want the dongle, as before. So make sure the eLicenser software is up to date, and do the maintenance checks before the servers shut down in May.

Much appreciated! Constantly doing the maintenance checks here.

Suddenly I’m not sure about HALion 7 - it’s a freebie, so ought not to require licencing at all. But…
