I know I have done something stupid, but I cannot work out what! Suddenly, on my Komplete Kontrol S49 Mk2, certain notes are sending commands to Cubase. Bb1 and B1 appear to select tracks, Bb3 and B3 are operating the undo and redo, C4 is saving the project, C#4 is saving the project, and C#4 is trying to revert to previous. What the heck have I done. I have checked the system with a Novation Launchkey and the same happens so it’s something in the program. Any help will be gratefully received as trying to record keyboard parts is getting very interesting!
You should really check your midi remotes (if any), generic remotes, mackie, and external utilties, such as autoHotKey or Bome MIDI Translator. Now, since this happens with both the KK and the LaunchKey, I would think this is an external utility, mapping notes to shortcuts.
Apart from the Komplete Kontrol S49, I am not using any remotes at all. I only connected the Launchkey to check if it caused the same problem. The question I have is how do I cancel these random note commands within Cubase?
Sorry to insist, it’s just difficult for me to imagine commands getting executed with no midi remote (new or old), or an external utility. But obviously I may be wrong.
Mind posting a screenshot of your Studio->Studio Setup->MIDI Port Setup and of Generic Remote (if any)?
I don’t have KK, but does it have specific mode for different operations, ie. DAW mode, plugin mode, etc…?
OK, so I see you have a Launchkey midi remote active. If you have accidentally assigned commands to its keys (and/or pads), this might be the cause of your trouble. Other than that, I’m clueless unfortunately.
Sorry to ask but maybe you could re-post your images but instead of using printscreen to capture your entire desktop, use the Windows Snipping Tool (formally known as Snip & Sketch) which will let you grab high quality images of sections of your screen. Right now the image is too blurry to really see what’s going on. Also it would be useful to see what is in the MIDI Remote tab.
Thanks for trying. It is happening with the Launchkey connected or even the Komplete Kontrol, so it must be something in the program! I’m wondering whether to reinstall Cubase.
No, don’t do that. It is very unlikely a reinstall will do anything other than create a bunch of extra work for yourself.
The behavior you are describing is exactly what the various Remote features in Cubase do - take MIDI Notes and convert them into Cubase Commands.
Are you using Pro or Elements, etc. (this will impact which debugging tools are available)?
Indeed, much better.
Komplete Kontrol creates a couple of MIDI Ports that are dedicated to sending control data back & forth with a DAW (things like the key colors or knobs) and not for a musical performance. You have included these as part of All MIDI Inputs. I think if you uncheck the circled items, that might fix it.
You can see how the KK Port is used in Remote Devices. In general the only Ports you want to include in All MIDI Inputs are for stuff you can play to capture a musical performance.
Note that unchecking a remote device from ALL will prevent notes or ccs from being sent to the tracks and not notes or ccs sent to whichever remote setup responsible for commands triggering.
Good point. I’m guessing that the Mackie Control has its MIDI Input set to KK.
