I have a stray diminuendo, which showed up after condensing my orchestral score. I can’t find its origin - it doesn’t appear in galley view. Actually I had a multitude of them, but I’ve managed to track them all down except one. I tried to fix it in Engrave mode, but it just won’t go away.
Assuming that you are trying to delete it, have you tried to do that in Page View in Write mode?
If it doesn’t appear in Write mode, check its Properties while it is selected in Engrave mode to see if there is anything which might cause it be hidden in Write mode. Try this in the Full Score layout and also in the layout for the instrument where it occurs.
Another approach is to select it in Engrave mode, change to Write mode and press Delete (or do Edit > Cut, if Delete does not work), then switch back to Engrave mode to see if it has been removed.
If success still eludes you, post the project here or PM it to me - don’t forget to indicate where the problem diminuendo is.
Hi Steven,
Many thanks for the quick response! My score (very much in progress) is enclosed.
The unwanted diminuendo occurs at the top of p. 38, above the top staff,
and then continues UNDER the flute line on p. 39, just before the Verdi quote. Mm. 247-257.
Best regards

The end of the hairpin is attached to a much later bar.

Hi @johnwillattplant, your gradual dynamic in Oboe 1 bar 246 and following, is cut short by the mp in bar 248.
Have a look at the many Proofreading warnings!:

If you observe (in Galley view) the attachment line of the gradual dynamic you will see the mistake.
Deleting the mp in oboe 1 bar 248, you see how long the actual gradual dynamic is:
Correct it, re-input the mp and all will be good. ![]()
(Then look for the many other warnings…)
Many thanks! I had not yet discovered the proofreading tool - it’s amazing. I have another question - in the condensed score, when only one instrument (say, only Clarinet 1) is playing, the crescendos and dynamics are above the staff, with rests underneath. Easy enough to get rid of the rests, but how can I get the hairpins and dynamics underneath the staff?
Once again, all my thanks!
