I’ve been watching the talk about the Stream Deck device with interest. Today, I’ve received an e-mail from Logitech about a new device up for pre-order called the MX Creative Console which looks similar, neutered in some ways, yet boosted in others. Check it out here (warning: I had difficulty getting this to generate: MX Creative Console - Customizable Dial and Keypad | Logitech ) . Stream Deck users - what do you think about this device? I’m curious. Thanks in advance for your input.
This is my first time seeing this, @leejackson — thanks for sharing.
Not knowing anything more about it than I could glean from a glance trough the site, three immediate thoughts:
- The 9-button limit would necessitate lots more scrolling than, say the 32-button SD XL. (caveat below)
- I’d be really interested to know how the Dialpad could map onto Dorico functions.
- The new user wouldn’t have (as far as I know) the option to get Notation Central’s ready-made template for Dorico
I’m using Stream Deck Mobile (configured as XL) and I don’t see how the Logitech Console can be compared with that, in combination with Dorico.
The combination of keyboard, keypad and dialpad is really cool if you are working on graphics and I’m really looking forward to test this with Lightroom and Photoshop. There I see lots of capabilities for this device setup and Logitech is actively promoting this combination.
This may be also useful in combination with a DAW like Cubase, but I have no direct idea on how to integrate it there in my workflow. However, in a german tech magazine they talk about integration profiles for Ableton Live, or tools like Spotify, Zoom, or even Philips Hue (uh…).
What I can’t imagine is how this all would fit into my work in Dorico, what do I do with a dialpad, except scrolling pages or such. The number of keys on the keypad is really limited, compared to the Stream Deck Mobile, so that would change a lot in the workflow.
The Streamdeck XL is hands down my favorite controller. Especially with the 3rd party developer support (SideshowFX specifically). But this new release by Logitech is intriguing. Logitech acquired Loupedeck last year. So, there will likely be more devices in the near future to compete with the XL.
