I have a string orchestra work (~5 minutes). The score looks great, but I’m trying to force the individual parts on 2 pages. There’s only 1 staff on page three. I tried to fiddle with the spacing, but it doesn’t force the next stave to the previous page. There is a blue box around the staves on each page. Perhaps this is preventing me from creating a two-page part? Help?
*** I figured it out! I edited the page template and removed the blue boxes. Leaving this here in case anyone faces the same issue.
Glad you figured out. In the future other areas to fiddle with are usually under Layout Options - Under page setup you can play with the margin area and Space Size > Rastral Size. I think the default is size 3 and sometimes I bump it to size 4 which will make everything overall a bit smaller but sometimes solves the issue. You could also look at note spacing and potentially casting off and play with the fixed bars or fixed systems per frame setting, etc.
Generally, manual adjustment of spacing will not alter the casting-off (i.e. which staves appear on which page). You have the Make into System and Make into Frame commands for that, or explicit System and Frame Breaks and their Wait for next… properties. But the most Dorico-ish way is indeed to delete all manual overrides and adjust the many Layout Options until it fits without any further intervention.
Those blue boxes are Music Frames and you do in fact need them on the page for any notation to appear. I’m therefore not sure how deleting them could have fixed your problem. Are you quite certain you didn’t just cut off your piece before the last system or something? As always, some screenshots (or even better, a project file!) would be most helpful to actually diagnose your issue.
