String quartet template: odd violin numbering

I happened to open the stock string quartet template in Dorico 6, and noticed that both violins are numbered oddly, as “violin 2” followed by either a 1 or 2. Normally, it would be violin 1 and violin 2, period. Any ideas how to fix this so a future instance where I might start with that template doesn’t require tweaking the numbering again? Thanks.

Odd.

I get this, don’t have large meter too, and I see your Cello also has a different name.

Do you maybe have a different Instrument Language setting in preferences?

Or you have you edited your default instrument names?

Thanks for both of your replies. The large time signatures is my default, along with the font, so I’m not surprised by that. But I had not had any language specified for instrument names; it was unchecked so I just checked it and it was always set to English.

I don’t recall ever editing a template’s instrument names, but where would I be able to do that? That would at least allow me to hopefully change the template. Thanks.

Not the template’s instrument names, but possibly the default names for the instruments. Go to Library > Instruments, pull up the violin, and make sure the names look correct.

And just to check, if you start a brand new project – not from a template, just Ctrl/Cmd+N – and add a violin player, how does the name of the player appear?

That did it! Thanks. Somehow it was set to “violin 2” as the name.

violin 2:

And after fixing this, it is now sticking after I toggled the star. Thanks.
