Hallo/Hi Ralf,

are you sure youā€˜re adressing the right developers? Dorico uses the sounds of third party developers, but Dorico developers do not produce sound libraries themselves. On your last PDF page, you already mention the producers of sound libraries, they are the ones to be adressed if there is anything missing.

You can already create any instrument you need (Library>Instruments…).

Whether you can get playback depends on having an appropriate sound library.

Hi Harald,

that is correct, but the suggestions refer to the fact that the libraries presented have the instruments listed in the list. To create instruments via the Library menu: Create custom instruments. Then: Select Library > Instruments to open the Edit Instruments dialogue. Select the instrument you want to duplicate and use as the basis for your new instrument from the instrument list. As you can see, it is not possible to create a completely new instrument without a starting point. In the German operating instructions, I always assumed that the new instrument created from the duplicate must be a variation of the previous one (e.g. mandolin/bouzouki). That would be very counterproductive, because I can’t think of any similar instruments that could serve as the source instrument for the glass harp and waterphone, which are my instruments of choice. Of course, I know which instrument family to put the instruments from my list into, and I also know which clef should be used for these instruments based on their range. However, it is important to note that some instruments have only been invented in the last 50 years and therefore no longer fit into the grid. I think that when choosing the source instrument, it is important to stay within the instrument family; in the case of the glass harp and waterphone, this would be pitched percussion.

You are over-thinking this.

You can create new Instrument Families (Library>Instrument Families…) if you want to.

When you ā€˜duplicate’ an instrument, all that does is to give you starting point. You can change everything and add them to your new family.

Ralf, like in your individual case, you only need to add those two instruments to the instrument library. And I would probably only want to add a Horn in C basso (that’s not on your list). We are all individuals with individual needs, so it is probably good that everybody can tailor the library accordingly.
