Suggestion for Steinberg about setting loop points

The loop area is defined by adjusting it in the ruler and also is visible in the arrange page by a grey area that extends down the arrange page.

If you want to change the loop points WITHOUT snap, you can drag the beginning and end loop points in the ruler freely, but it would be great if the grey area of the loop would also follow the changes you are making in the ruler, as you make them. The grey loop area that goes down the arrange page does not change until AFTER you have made your loop changes in the ruler.

Why is that a problem? Because if you are changing you loop points without snap to cover an audio waveform whose hit points do not fall on exact timeline (e.g., beats or bars), you do not know exactly where to place the beginning and end of the loop in the ruler, whereas if the grey area moved with your beginning and end loop triangles as you adjust it, you could then place it very precisely visually, according to the waveform. I hope this makes sense…

Hi @antp6117,

first of all: welcome to the forum!

this can be done easily via “Select Clip (left mouse click) + P”, independently from any current grid / snap settings. Then you can also navigate via “L” (move playhead to clip start) and a freely defined (previously unmapped) key like “-” (move playhead to clip end).

Cheers,
Markus

“In Cubase, pressing Alt+P (Windows) or Option+P (Mac) acts as a “Loop Selection” command. It instantly sets the left and right locators to the boundaries of any selected audio or MIDI event(s) and activates the cycle/loop mode, allowing you to quickly loop a specific selection”

This might be helpful.

Thank you!
