They are great.
Not an issue with them, some occasional crashes.

Well. Logic Pro also has tons of first class plug-ins.
Logic, ey? I expected the usual Reaper appearance first. But have it your way. Of course, nobody said that Cubase is the only DAW with a good plugin suite but please tell us more about Logic on a Cubase forum.
Well, Roomworks is just smashing, to me. And other stock plugs.
But Waves has some great plugins.
And WUP isn’t necessary but, what, every 5 years? So you pay, like, a $50 fee per year to use all your Waves plugins while getting them initially for $30 or less. TCO, total cost of ownership, is low, then. Better than a subscription, in my opinion. You get lured in and can’t stop subscribing until you archive all your old projects.
Cubase is great, and every now and then I do get a crash that says Waveslib is the issue.
On the other hand, my computer has crashed almost 85% of the time due to changing my visibility configuration in Cubase in an awkward way (where I accidentally double-tap on a hardware controller instead of tapping once). So, yeah, Cubase isn’t perfect. But I guess I’m happy that it doesn’t freeze and simply goes poof then needs to be restarted. Gives me an excuse to get up from the chair and stretch.
Reaper doesn’t have that many plug-ins, I think. At least not instruments.
Reaper is great, BTW. I just get distracted by all the stuff that I can change to work different.
Well. If you have a Mac, or in my case if you were using Logic’s predecessor since the Atari days, it is a great DAW with lots of amazing plug-ins.
I also use and like Bitwig and Live for some stuff, BTW.
Oh yeah, and not to forget Ardour and BandLab and FL Studio and GarageBand and LMMS and Pro Tools and Psycle and Reason and Samplitude and Studio One and…
Hi guys!
If I’m not mistaken Cubase since its origin was designed so that musicians, engineers, and amateurs could have access to a professional software environment totally dedicated to music.
All the elements constituting this software have been designed with a view to offering the best possible quality according to current technological developments.
All the competitors did the same thing. To think that Cubase plugins could not produce a quality mix is rather disappointing. At one time, I believe that computer music could not compete with the big studios, but today all the big studios have integrated computer music. Even great renowned engineers do their mixing In The Box.
All these software: Cubase, Logic, ProTools, Live, etc. can compete against each other. It is up to us as users to choose the one that best suits our needs.
For my part, I started with Performer and Digital Performer before adopting Cubase. Both were excellent. I adopted Cubase for its versatility (Mac/PC) and I never regretted it.
Cubase Plugins have always been my favorite. Only when I can’t get the sound I want, I turn to my UAD, Waves, NI plugins or some free plugins like those from Analog Obsession and a few others. The choice depends on various factors.
Steinberg has great plugins and so do the competitors. It’s up to you to make your choices based on your needs.
Stock Plug-ins have been more than good enough for the past decade or more.
Third party plug-ins are great when they offer functionality beyond what stock offers, and when the user experience is simply so good that some people will prefer to use them - as many creatives are visually oriented.
But outside of creative FX the stock stuff has been there for more than a minute.
Outside of hardware modelling, of course (but they’re starting to veer in that direction now - for multiple DAWs).
Cubase does have, IMO, the best set of stock FX on the market.
Now if only they could get their synths and sample content to the same level
Oh, I don’t know, Retrologue and stock Padshop sounds saved my skin many times.
Squasher and Multiband Stereo Imager were a huge deal to me at least, Squasher in particular, transforms all my synth sounds. Incredible plugin.
They’re fine, I guess.
But compared to the Stock Synths in Ableton Live Suite, Bitwig Studio or Logic Pro…
I mean, I could really use some Drum Synths, for example.
fair enough, I don’t know these DAWs too well.
Plug-Ins: Cubase Pro > Logic Pro
Virtual Instruments, Synths and Sample/Loop Content: Logic Pro > Cubase Pro
I think you need Absolute to get anywhere near Logic Pro for the Instruments and stuff, but I still don’t think it does the job totally - since Logic basically give you all the samples in the base package, etc. It’s more like trying to play catch-up.
HALion still doesn’t quite close the synth gap with Logic. No Physical Modeling or Drum Synths.
On the flip side, I do think Cubase has better FX than Logic Pro, and the ratio is pretty noticeable.
Those DAWs are almost like getting Cubase Pro with Absolute 6 bundled in the package.
I have generally veered towards pruning third-party plug-ins from my systems, vs. installing more of them, in the past year or two.
I hate Waves, Bought their package once. Was a pure waste of money.
It’s so fashionable to hate on Waves these days.
macos?
You underestimated the quality of Steinberg products.
Groove Agent 5, HALion 7 and the others are excellent products and they have absolutely nothing to envy of other products of the same type. Here is what I achieved with Cubase. Groove Agent 5 (pro version) is the only drum kit I use, HALion 7 (pro version) is mainly used, The Grand is often the piano used, all SB synths are there at one time or another.
But it would be lying to you to say that there are only SB plugins. There are also real instruments occasionally and plugins from NI, ROLI, UAD, Arturia, Softube. However, Steinberg’s are always preferred, because they sound good and if I don’t find the sound I want, I’ll look elsewhere.
You won’t find any DAW that can completely satisfy you and even if you did, you will want to explore new gadgets, new sounds at some point. Curiosity and a taste for new things can sometimes be difficult to control.
If you have a purchase to make at SB, get Absolute, you won’t regret it.
It may have something to do with that:
