Suspended Cymbal notation and playback

Hi – I’ve written a suspended cymbal part in a concert band score and need to indicate two different playing techniques and get two different playback sounds. Using Dorico 6 Pro and NotePerformer.

I’d like to indicate rolls with soft mallets and, at one point in the score, switch to drumstick on cymbal bell, like a ride cymbal in a drum set.

Suggestions for how to accomplish this?

Dorico doesn’t provide default playing techniques for beaters, but you can add them yourself via Library > Playing Techniques. You can use the glyphs from this SMuFL range:

Daniel: Thank you for pointing me to these. Since I’m writing for young band (second- and third-year students), I’ll probably just create a playing technique in text, like “soft yarn mallets” for the susp. cymbal rolls and “drumstick” or “stick on bell” for the ride cymbal-like part. If I want each of these to play back correctly, could I create a percussion kit with, say, a suspended cymbal and a drum set, and remove all but the cymbal from the drum set? Or is there an easier way? Thanks again.
