System lines and multibar rests

I need to add some G.P. markings to my score, and I’m going back and forth between the workaround that makes use of a fermata type that I’m not using and the one that uses a horizontal line. Each has pros and cons.

I’ve noticed that if I add a horizontal line to one bar in one instrument, the line will break a multibar rest on both sides of that bar.

But if I add a horizontal line to one bar as a system line (with Alt+click), the multibar rest is only broken on the left side of the bar, not the right.

Is this behavior known/intentional?

(I’d prefer to add G.P. as system lines, so that my score doesn’t get too busy. I know that I can work around the multibar behavior by adding a manual split to the following bar in Engrave mode.)

Yes, it’s intentional, though off the top of my head I can’t remember exactly why we chose to handle these lines in this way. The algorithms for determining multi-bar rests are far from straightforward.
