System Spacing and Number of Systems Per Page Issue

Hello!

I have a system formatting issue…

I need to have 0.75" between systems that are part of one exercise, and 1.5" between exercises. And, I need the number of systems per page to be flexible.

Is this possible?

Would creating a blank heading template of an appropriate size allow you to add the extra distance between flows?

Hi @bilo20, I am not sure I understand what this means:

But for the other request, it is possible to create fix spacing in Dorico, and precisely set the desired spacing globally:

  • deactivating the Collision Avoidance checkmark,
  • deactivating the Vertical Justification (setting both threshold values to 100%,
  • setting an appropriate Inter system gaps value until you see 0.75" in Engrave Mode/Staff Spacing view,
  • then you can adjust the distance between the flows (the exercises) increasing the Flow heading top margin until you reach 1.50".

(you can also change the flow heading bottom margin, and correct the top margin…)
(I suggest you remove all pages overrides, and reset the spacing from menu Egrave/Staff Spacing/Reset layout, before setting the Layout Options as I suggested)

fixed spacings.dorico (1.3 MB)

By my simple calculations, that would require the page size to flexible too…

Thanks for the solution!
I’ll dig into it this weekend.

What if some of the exercises are 3-5 staves?

Same procedure:

  • define the distance between the staves with the inter-system gap (with only one staff per system the inter-system gap controls the distance of the staves),
  • define the distance between exercises with the flow heading top margin.
