Quick question. I’m adding a temple block to one of my percussion players. Easy enough. The default setting for the stave is a single line. I can’t seem to edit this in setup mode. It’s greyed out under, (edit percussion kit). Instead of adding Temple block, do I add percussion kit instead to get the five lines? Then , How do I get Dorico to play am actual Temple Block instead of conga sound?
You may want to refer to this thread re VST’s. Dorico does not have every instrument in the world built in, but there are countless VST’s for most things.
Forum advice is to do a search before a post - more often than not others have had the same problem/question. I’m pretty sure there is a topic here somewhere about the staff as well.
Andro, I realize you are trying to be helpful and not snarky. However, I did do a search first to save time, but couldn’t get specific answers. The link you provided only send me to VI library to obtain the sounds. I’m looking for a way, a clear and comprehensive way to set up a third party sound, whether it be VI libraries or spitfire for percussion mapping. I’ve had success previously, but for some reason no matter what I try, the temple blocks usually only play one pitch, even when I attempt percussion mapping overrides. It seems simple enough, but there’s continual fussiness with how Dorico links midi notes/channel mapping. I would like to see a step by step way that is more “bullet proof” no matter the third party sample. FOr what it’s worth, Ive got the tuned temple blocks from syncron library loaded up, and only c3 is being triggered. Odd, since there is plenty of note mapping provided and linked through my template setup.
Dorico provides a temple blocks percussion kit instrument that you can assign to a player in Setup mode. If you then want to trigger your own custom sounds from VSL or any other source, you’ll need to make sure you have an appropriate percussion map defined (which maps the pitches in your VSL patch onto the different temple block instruments), and have that percussion map chosen in Play mode for the track corresponding to the player holding the kit – and, of course, ensure that you have the track routed to the appropriate slot/channel in the VST instrument where the temple blocks patch is loaded.
Yes D! I am aware . But for some reason I can’t get the correct sounds to trigger with the given temple block staves provided in Dorico. Something’s a miss…
Check that you’ve got the right MIDI notes in your percussion map. Check that you’ve got the same specific temple block instruments, which are differentiated by their rough pitch, in your kit and in the percussion map.
when you say rough pitch, what do you mean? I’ve got the correct corresponding midi pitch/note assigned in the percussion mapping. Are you referring to (edit drumkit note) below drumkit map?
Here is my screenshot. I’m very confused as to how the only sound being played is midi D1. Even if I assign 5 different pitches to the temple block stave provided by dorico, all 5 lines are triggering D1. Where is THAT assignment coming from?
For “fun” I’ve taken the playable pitches in my library (which are E1 and D1) and assigned those notes to E1,E2,E3,E4, D1,D2,D3,D4 to cover myself incase doricos midi octaves aren’t aligned. Now, there’s no sound. This shouldn’t be this confusing. Sorry…
I also wanted to point out that when i engage the 5-lined Temple Block satves, I am able to trigger all the sounds from the Kontakt library. I’m just not able to record anything on the staff nor will it play any of the pitches on that stave. What am I missing here?
I see a real big problem in your percussion map : the instrument cannot be Temple Blocks. It should be Temple block (Low) or Temple Block (Medium-Low) or Temple Block 4… Whatever Dorico calls a single temple block instrument (I don’t remember that, sorry. And not in front of the computer)
Assigning the same sound to different octaves in the percussion map is not a good idea, because Dorico will only trigger one (probably the lowest MIDI note number available although I am not 100% sure about it).
But in this case, I am quite confident that once you use the appropriate instrument name, it will work flawlessly.
That got me in the correct direction! I had to play around with octaves a bit, since the 3rd party library was off by an octave to Doricos midi mapping. Also, the setting for multiple instruments has to be engaged. I had it set to single. Thanks for your help!
