So I have a track with several events (like a bass part where I did a bunch of punch ins), but when I go to “tempo detection,” it’s grayed out unless I select only one event on the track. Is that right? So I can’t “select all events” and tempo detect for all of them with one click?

That;s right. You have to have selected only one event. If you want to do it for all, you have to do it one by one.
