Text Border inconsistencies

I am adding System Text to a project (Alt+Shift+X), I changed the properties by turning on border, and then changed the border type to rounded rectangle, globally is set.

In galley view, the border looks like a regular rectangle:

When viewing the Full Score layout in page view, the border looks like the capsule:

When viewing the part, it looks correct with the rounded rectangle:

I am not sure if this has been reported, but I thought I would post this. For some reason I am unable to change the Full Score Layout text border to show the same rounded rectangle and I see in the parts.

This is not a “deal breaker” just unexpected behavior.

I’m not surprised that in galley view, it’s not looking as it should — no engraving there…
I think the part has the rounded rectangle while your full score has the capsule. I’d bet the properties were set on local at some point…

That’s what I thought @MarcLarcher . So I added it again, making sure properties were set to global. Even when redoing it, the score still shows a capsule rather than the rounded rectangle.

Here is the a view with the properties window open:

When I select capsule, it elongates the capsule a little, and when I choose rounded rectangle it goes back to this capsule looking shape.

I’ve tried to reproduce this and I’m unable to. If I have Set local properties set to Globally, any change I make to Border style is applied both in the full score layout and the part layouts in with the text item appears.

Daniel,

Here is the file in question, stripped of all music for you to see.

Text issues.dorico (2.3 MB)

This file, like many of the others started life as the VDL Template that Jon Barron made those many years ago.

If you think that could be the problem, please let me know. I can work to rebuild the template myself from scratch if I need to.

Thanks for attaching the project, Robby. The issue is that the staff size is signficantly different between the full score (where it’s pretty small) and the part (where it’s comparatively much larger). It looks to me like Dorico is using a fixed radius for the rounded rectangle, regardless of the size the text actually ends up drawing, and consequently the same corner radius when the text is much smaller makes it look like the text is drawing with the capsule style, rather than the rounded rectangle style. I’ve made a note of this and we’ll see what we can do to sort it out.

Thank you! I appreciate the insight. If I remember correctly, I couldn’t adjust the thickness of the border in the score either.

Thank you for all that you do!

From my perspective, this is clearly not super important. My concern was that I thought I found a bug.
