Text right above staff

I’m sure this is simple, but I can’t find it in the manual. I have several different singers in a piece and wanted to notate right above the notes where each one starts. How do I place simple text right on top of the staff?

If you want the test to appear above just one staff: Shift+X

If you want it above all staves (“system text”): Shift+Alt/Opt-X

Hi @Jess_Platt,

I searched for “write text” in the search field* of the Online Help (Manual), and the third result was this:

(*)

Thanks. It’s always easy when someone helps!

Thanks. What I didn’t realize is that you have to click on the first note under the staff and then it was easy. And then I was able to select the word and slide it.

You can also use the right menu bar and tab the big T. If you do not see it you have to first tab the small keyboard button at the top right below the palette.

Getting text aligned is a bit of a hassle and might need the engraving mode. I often have pieces where a title and a tempo marking are at the same location. The text should be above the tempo mark. Vertically it works when the note below is not too high. Horizontally I have not been able to automatically align text with the tempo marking without shifting the text block a bit in the engraving mode.
