This is something that I always thought would be very useful.
For example:
Rather than having to go from track to track to track to adjust send amounts to a Reverb, just go to the Reverb track and be able to see and adjust everything being sent to it (and add more sends to it via project track list)
It’s one of those things, when you think about it, that DAWs have been doing wrong/backwards since they were invented… Because developers made DAWs from the perspective of working on a console - when in the digital realm, we can do things however we want - and in many cases, better more efficient.
This would also be enormously useful for when doing hardware print-mixing and re-amping.
Nothing against having this as an option.
But as an old engineer from when God was a boy it makes sense to me the way it is.
Example I want to add / adjust the amount of reverb on a snare from the snare channel not the FX channel.
That makes sense if you only have snare or a few other things going to that reverb.
It’s useful when you are balancing multiple things going to the same effect. It becomes more like a sub-mix console, just for that effect. If you are adjusting the snare, you might as well have a hand at seeing what other levels are like going into the verb. It might not just be the snare that needs tweaking.
and of course, there is a wide range of production and music styles today beyond the classic snare/vocal/etc → reverb. People are sometimes working with layers of reverbs with many things being sent to them.
You could also automate from this shortcut send submixer.
As far as I understand it‘s the functionality „Sends on fader“ which is known from dogital consoles like e.g. Behringer Wing (one that I know).
I have the same request for the cues that are available in Cubase Pro for years. It allows to have several independant monitor mixes for the artists that are recording.
Generally it‘s always there in the Cubase mix console but the faders there a very small.
Same concept could work for sends that are routed to a certon FX bus
I have a controller that allows me to do it, the iCON V1-M. But is has several software issues.
I was justing asking my self what’s the best way (if there is one…) to manage send levels and group(s).
What I’ve understood so far is that generally is ‘better’ to set the mix command in reverb to 100% wet so to have only reverb signal coming out from the FX channel, then sending different levels from various tracks, basically like @Mrhehon writes but…
…I would understand better what @awesomeaudio is suggesting as I’m note sure I’ve got it…
One more doubt is about having separate FX channel for each group (guitars, bass, boxes, keys, etc.)…
