The record function doesn't work after choosing PC's Creative SB sound card in WL "Audio Device"

OK, so I discovered that the “Audio Device” setting had to be set to Windows MME in order for recording to function. I had previously chosen my Creative SB sound card with ASIO in “Audio Device” from the drop-down menu, because I didn’t want to use Windows MME, but the Creative SB sound card menu option didn’t function for recording. Does anyone know why choosing my Creative SB sound card in “Audio Device” would be a problem?
