My niente dynamics used to look like this:
And now they look like this:
(There is a gap between the circle and the start of the hairpin.)
How do I go back?

Searching for ‘niente’ in the Dynamics category of Engraving Options reveals several relevant settings that should help.
There’s also a pointer in this direction on this page, which should be the top result when searching “niente circle gap”
Thanks so much, I didn’t open up the advanced!
There was another similar thread here recently and I found it quite interesting - some people think of the circle rather of an immediate dynamic, such as the n symbol which is also explains the need for a gap. Others (like me, and OP I suppose) think about it as a part of the hairpin itself, thus no gap should appear.
Is there academic consensus?
I don’t think so. I just flipped through a few of my favorite notation books and most don’t address it at all.
Gould says attached on pg 108:
Stone says don’t use the circle at all on pg 18:
David Cope’s New Music Notation clearly shows it separated on pg 55:
I didn’t do an exhaustive search, but that’s all I saw in the books I reach for most often. Not much consensus at all!
and then there’s the ones with a line through! What a chaos! Thanks for the info, though.
