Thinking of Black Friday Upgrade to V12?

I dont want to trial 12 because last time (trialling a newer version) caused me some issues and time so Im not doing that again.

I asked for phase rotation and was pleased it was implemented but I cant really test…can anyone give feedback on that?

Also, as I have mentioned, one of the main uses was debleed of drum stems but was sad that at the time there was no tom unmix…that is there now I believe but is it good? I find a lot of the drum unmix takes eg snare transients end up with cymbals or hihats? Any comments on that?

Cheers

oh, right, I didn’t try yet…what sources would you like tested? I don’t know if I can do much…I’m working effects at the moment…are you more interested in musical instruments?

I’d have to go hunting for audio which needs phase rotation…I suppose I could destructively apply some phase rotation…

Hi @ctreitzell

I mainly get it on bass guitar, male vocals and brass

I tried the acustica adaptive phase on eg an acoustic guitar but it has some phasey sound in bits…so Im a bit wary

It mostly matters on low frequency stuff because otherwise its affecting comp/limit quite a lot…but that energy matters the most. If I get time Ill see if I can find something from the last couple of mixes which were submitted direct from an 8 track dig recorder and was quite a tough job…like single mono mic for drums etc. The songs are quite good but they recorded quite a long time ago and wanted them mixed and released…but the asymmetry absolutely ate the comp

ok, I follow…sure, if you find something you want me to run thru

Here is a typical saturated snare into a tube mic pre…raw

As you crank the saturation into this particular pre it becomes more asym with tube clamping

Snare Asym Test.zip (2.0 MB)

IF the rotation is working well there should be no “swoosh” artifiacts of course.
This shows how important this feature is…try it into compression with and without phase rotation.

Also proves my theory that Cubase has lost touch in some ways with recorded productions: this is such an essential tool for tracking and shouldnt need SL to do it.
