Hi all,
IK Multimedia released a new v2.0.12 update for SampleTank on iOS, this update is supposed to fix an issue where it would not respond to incoming MIDI from an external keyboard or inside a DAW since the release of iPadOS18 update last September, but this has not fixed the issue at all.
I have contacted IK Multimedia but on several occasions they only ever ask me to perform simple obvious tasks to see if ST now works, sometimes I think they assume us users as not having common sense when faced with these problems.
I am interested to find out if anyone can use SampleTank in IAA mode in Cubasis 3 after updating to iOS18, so that I can contact the developer with my findings, failing that, a total refund.
Strangely enough, SampleTank is still available to purchase on the App Store even though it doesn’t work!
Mike
Thank you for your support.
I have been in very regular contact with IK Multimedia since December 2024, especially after each new update to either iOS or the very recent SampleTank v2.0.12 which is supposed to fix the MIDI not working issue, I also relayed your message of allowing them a code to use Cubasis 3 for testing purposes on two occasions but they have not responded to that suggestion.
I have SampleTank installed along with Cubasis 2 on my iPad 2nd generation, this is running iOS12, SampleTank works well on this device, but it will not respond to MIDI at all on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPad Air 4 and 13” iPad Air M2.
The IK M. support team explained that it is because Apple have deprecated IAA that SampleTank no longer works in Cubasis 3, but I explained on many occasions that it also does not respond to external MIDI from my Novation Impulse 61 keyboard when used in Stand-alone mode, the support team tell me their app works on other user’s devices, that why I started this thread to find out how many users can still use Sampletank since the iOS18 update released last September, so that I can confirm they are either right or wrong with this statement.

Hi Lars,
First of all, thanks for the great new Cubasis 3 update, I also like the new Help section, it is now easier to navigate.
Secondly, have you been in touch with IK Multimedia since our last messages above? The reason I ask is because just before midnight on 31/03/25, IK Multimedia emailed me to say:
“my SampleTank Midi not working case has now been passed to their team and I am to stand by for more information”,
as far as I knew I was already talking to the “Team”, obviously not, I hope this was not a April Fool joke! Hopefully Not lol
Mike
I have not been in touch with our friends at IK Multimedia about this. But their feedback sounds promising. Again, we do know IK Multimedia to be very supportive, and they make great products for sure.
BTW, Sample Tank 2 installs and plays fine here (Cubasis 3.7.5, iPad Mini 6th Gen, iPadOS 18.4) triggered via an external keyboard (without any manual setup steps).
Did you give it a try to launch the Sample Tank 2 Stand Alone app version first?
In addition, you may load other instruments via IAA first, trigger a few notes and then change back to ST.
Hi Lars,
Thanks for your suggestions.
I have launched Nave, iWavestation and SampleTank CS (upgraded to full version), I then launched Cubasis 3.7.5, I first loaded and tested Nave, I changed it to iWavestation and finally SampleTank CS, the first two apps worked perfect but SampleTank CS remains silent on my iPad Air 4 and iPad Air 6 both running OS18.4. It also will not work in Stand-alone mode.
I don’t have the iPad Mini, I prefer the larger screens, that’s why I mainly use my 13” Air M2 for all things Cubasis.
I have not made any changes to my two iPad’s settings that would prevent ST from receiving external MIDI or even receiving MIDI as part of my existing and previous Cubasis projects, as I have already stated - as soon as iOS18 was installed on my iPads, ST refused to work from that moment.
All my IAA apps work in AUM and Audiobus 3 except for ST, it refuses to open in Audiobus, it constantly needs waking!
I wish I knew what the difference is between my iPads and yours.
One thing for sure, my grey hair is getting grey’er trying to solve this issue.
I wouldn’t mind loosing ST if I only had a few Cubasis projects that relied on it being used, but I do have many past projects that use ST throughout each song.
I now realise that I made the mistake of not freezing the tracks that were part of the backing arrangement. This is a wake up call for all IAA apps used in all Cubasis projects, to rapidly freeze them before Apple finally pulls the plug on ALL IAA apps.

I just gave the issue a short check, installing the latest available Sample Tank 2 free app version from the App Store, where things worked as expected (MIDI triggering via an external keyboard).
Please exchange with our friends at IK Multimedia to further discuss the issue.
Hi Lars,
Thank you for taking the time to investigate SampleTank, I very much appreciate your help with this issue.
I already went through this whole routine several times after being instructed by the IK M. support team to do so.
I have four separate devices that have SampleTank installed, my old iPad 2nd generation, SampleTank still works on this device because it is only using iOS12, but my iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPad Air 4 and iPad Air 6 are all updated to iOS18.4 and SampleTank will not work on any of them in Stand-alone mode when connected to an external MIDI keyboard or when used in IAA mode in Cubasis 3, the Cubasis on-screen keyboard on all three devices have no effect with SampleTank.
I have Midi Wrench open and my external keyboard is clearly sending MIDI into my three devices. All other IAA synth apps work perfectly in all modes. Incidentally, on the IK Multimedia forum, there are many users who have complained about the exact same issues I have experienced, that’s too much of a coincidence don’t you think?
The very moment I installed iOS18 last September was the moment SampleTank stopped working completely, there has only been two occasions when Apple released 2 iOS18.# updates (I can’t remember the exact numbers), SampleTank worked in all modes and I deliberately closed everything down and relaunched everything to make sure it still worked, but it did not and I am completely baffled by all this.
Everything I have written about above has already been passed on to IK M several times, I even sent them the information concerning differences between iPad models and how they may react differently to IAA apps, IK M wrote back and said they are only going to investigate the Midi not working issue and that they had no intention of sorting out Apples deprecated IAA functionality, somewhere along the line they mistakenly think I want them to sort out Apple!
I really wish I knew how you managed to get ST working.
Mike🍻
