I want to write a repetition with different endings (e.g. bracket 1, bracket 2 etc.). There is a problem when notes are to be brought forward from bracket 2, i.e. the corresponding tie is missing, which goes into the note out of nowhere, quasi laissez vibrer only the other way round.
Ties into second endings are one of those “non-native” notation elements that require a workaround:
Thanks a lot for your answer! I am currently moving from finale to dorico. Therefore, I am not yet very familiar with the history of this forum.
Glad to help, and welcome to the forum — and Dorico, @xn04325!
Another Finale refugee. I’ve a song with two numbered ending brackets. The trouble is, the treble piano staff contains a tie that goes from the measure before the brackets to the first measure of each of the two brackets. My first ending works. But the second ending needs to tie forward and backwards, since the chord is held for more than one measure. I tried L.V. ties, using Engrave Mode to make them tie backwards to the bar line. But then I can’t tie forward without the second bar containing L.V. ties. It’s a mess. Thank you for guidance.
Instead of using a laissez vibrer tie at the beginning of the second ending, you could enter a grace note tied to the normal note which follows. Select the grace note in engrave mode, set its scale to normal and hide its stem and notehead. Then select the left end of the tie from the grace note and move it to the left:
