Tied frullato - how?

How can I notate this: a frullato note tied to a non-frull. note (which shall not be tongued)?

A tie produces

which I don’t want. (the 2nd tremolo sign cannot be hidden separately!).

A slur produces

which I don’t want either.
Of course I can manually adjust the slur on the 1st page, but then the 2nd part of the slur (after the page break) still remains there and cannot made invisible (this would also hide the 1st part of the slur).
The following “solution” was created by moving the 2nd part of the tie off the printing area, which is of course not very elegant…

You can remove it in Engrave mode. Select the last note and properties panel.

Your’re really having an oboist fluttertongue on a low B?

Good luck with that…

Yes, they do that, it is not exposed (tutti-chord)

Thank you, that did it. There is always something to explore in the properties panel :face_with_monocle:!

You can also input tremolos with release (which means the last note in the chain doesn’t get tremolo markings)

Great to learn that, but in this case I want already the 2nd dotted half note to be released. I think this is provided only via the properties panel, right?

shift-r ///rel works in this case too.

No, in my case this kills only the last trem., not the one on the tied note.

Aah, because you have the trailing quaver (I missed that).

You could do it by:

  1. Untie the 3 notes (U)
  2. select the 1st and shift-R ///
  3. force duration (O) and retie twice (TT)

Untie-ing notes in order to change tremolo strokes is unnecessary, due to the relevant property described earlier, which can be set on individual notes in tie chains if you select them in Engrave mode.

@Lillie_Harris. Yes, I know I can use the property in Engrave. But I still find it much quicker to do this in Write. I find selecting just noteheads in Engrave to beliterally hit and miss!

“zzzz” (zooming in) can be your friend here, if you are looking for a new friend :grinning:

It’s a common misconception with relatively new users that certain things can only be achieved by untie-ing notes, doing that thing, then retie-ing – such as adding dynamics mid-tie chain.

Therefore I’ll take any opportunity to reassure readers that this is not necessary, and there are other ways.
