Ties in Dorico

Hi there,
I’m relatively new to Dorico. All has been going relatively well so far!
However, I’m still getting my head around the behaviour of ties and groupings. :confounded:
For example, this is a rhythm that I would like notated as a dotted minim, tied to a dotted quaver (that is beamed together with the last semiquaver):

I understand there is the “Forced Duration” route… however, before I go there…I’m looking at the “Notation Options/Note Groupings” menu and I’m not having any luck suggesting the correct option…

Thank you so much for any help/advice!

Welcome @chebu.
You could (force) note groupings like this using the meter popover. shift-M [3+1]/4 will force Dorico to consider the last beat of the bar separately, which will give you what you want. But it might have adverse consequences elsewhere.

Isn’t there also a Layout or Engrave option to limit the number of dots a note (rest?) can take?

Yes, Notation Options, Note Groupings, Dots.

A number of users have asked for the ability to prefer a single longer dotted duration rather than splitting at the half-bar in this kind of situation, and it’s on our backlog to provide an option for this in future versions.
