Time Signature Change Messes Up

I think I have seen this addressed but cannot find it.

I created a bar of 2/4 and entered notes. I decided to change back to 4/4, but now the bar only allows 2 beats even though it says 4/4.

I can delete the bar and re-enter notes, but it seems there should be a way to fix this.

Hi @konradh, to easily reestablish the full 4/4, activate insert mode (I), select the first 4/4 and click twice on Enter (once to “edit” the 4/4, and once to confirm it). The needed rests will be inserted, thanks to activated insert mode. Deactivate insert mode when finished!:

Then you can delete the second 4/4 (because redundant).

Depending on what follows, and if the rests are needed, or the following music should be moved to the first 4/4 bar, the methodology may vary.

When you change the time signature earlier in a flow than another existing time signature (or in this case, double barline which overrides the “default” pattern of barlines, which comes from the prevailing time signature), Dorico won’t insert extra beats unless Insert mode is active.
