I have made an SFZ instrument definition file which uses Garritan GPO5 samples to create an “All-in-one” multi-instrument Basso instrument. Thus, from one Player-staff in Dorico, you can have Cello and Bass at the octave, +/- additional Bassoon.
Using a different key switch, you can get a different effect:
… and so on.
So, if you have GPO5, you can add this SFZ file to ARIA Player, and you’ll be able to use the instrument. This text file just points ARIA to your existing Garritan samples.
This is essentially a ‘beta’, as there are few things I need to fix: most notably, a default file path to the GPO5 samples on Windows. If anyone could let me know, that would be great. Any other comments gratefully received.

It is possible to create something similar in HALion player: load a Cello in slot 1, and a Bass in slot 1 on the same channel, transposed down an octave. A Bassoon on track 3. You can change the key switches so that they are all the same. Here’s the VST preset, and a slightly modified Iconica Sketch expression Map.

However, I find this a bit sluggish: when used with other libraries, it’s a bit behind the beat, and it’s not sufficient light on its feet for fast notes.
