Hello. Tearing my hair out trying to get a title page and an instrument list in the opening pages of my score. I’ve managed to create two blank pages. But when I go into Engrave mode I do not see the FRAMES toggle switch, and I cannot figure out how to get a text frame on to the page. Help greatly appreciated as always.
Are you using Pro or Elements? Can you post a cut-down version of your project?
I’m using Pro. Here is a cut-down version - I just ruthlessly excised all but the first 100 measures. Hope this helps.
Secret passage CUT DOWN.dorico (2.1 MB)
The Frames panel is here:
If you don’t see this after clicking on the frames icon (the one in blue), then click on the top icon to open the panel.
Then click the text frame icon (the one with the T), and click and drag somewhere on the page to create a frame.
Go into Engrave mode. On the upper right side you’ll see a triangle on the 2nd page. Right click and remove the page override. That gets rid of the 2nd of the two blank pages. Here’s what I did:
Secret passage CUT DOWN with title page.dorico (2.2 MB)
Remove all page overrides.
Right click on 1st page in upper right
Insert a page template change.
Select the Title page (either one).
Double click on that page template in lower right panel (under Page templates heading)
In the left panel, select the 2nd icon down.
Under Insert frames, click the T icon.
Drag a text frame(s) where you want it.
Double click in the text frame and add the text.
Click outside the frame.
Copy page layout to the opposite page.
Apply, close.
When I remove all page overrides, the remaining blank page disappears, so I’m back where I started. And if I control-click the upper right hand corner, the only items that appear are FILTER and BAR NUMBERS/STAFF SIZE.
One can make a blank Page Template and apply it. The blank template will move the music without causing a page override.
This is true, but follow the rest of the steps I gave and you’ll get what you want. I don’t know why you are control-clicking anything.
There’s a very useful Discover Dorico session on creating Title pages and front material.
Create a Title Page | Discover Dorico
If you lack patience, the whole session is indexed so you can dip into the sections of insterest.
This was extremely helpful (including the tip about the indexing). Gobsmacked, though, to discover that I was trying to drag the text box from the menu into the frame, instead of selecting it and then clicking within the frame. It seems I struggled more with this issue than almost any other - I was beginning to develop a swagger about my newfound prowess with Dorico, and then to be stumped by something so apparently basic as a title page!
Control clicking is how you right-click with a Mac mouse.
The video suggested by Janus was very helpful (see my comment to Janus about the rather breathtaking mistake I was making…or at least it SEEMS breathtaking in retrospect!) Thanks for your patience and thoroughness.
Really? I had no idea. Mac mice don’t have two buttons? Glad you figured it out.
They do. A long time ago, they didn’t

My computer dates from 2015 - I feared Dorico Pro would be beyond its capabilities, but so far it’s been working quite nicely. And I didn’t know Mac Mice had acquired a second button in the interim!
