My largest, most complex MIDI Remote just lost all its mappings. I tried re importing it from cloud and local backups several times, restarting Cubase, restarting my PC, removing it and reimporting it. Nothing worked. So I am currently in the process of re assigning stuff. But if there is a fix, I’m all ears.
Which version of Cubase and Controller do you use?
Which files do you have as a backup?
C14 with Metagrid Pro.
xx.midiremote in Documents.
So I keep re-assigning stuff and it keeps forgetting the assignments. I’ve been using this MIDI Remote without issue for over a year and now this is happening. Not cool!!!
I think I’ll fire up the Generic Remote. It doesn’t just randomly forget stuff.
It is a bug that has been occurring increasingly frequently in Cubase 14 for some users.
This renders the latest version of Cubase 14 unusable, even though Steinberg claims it has been fixed.
However, the bug has not been resolved in Cubase 14, and I assume there will be no bug fix for Cubase 14 either.
It affects the Globalmappings file, which is created in the Midi Remote folder and contains the assignments.
For some unknown reason, these are reset from time to time.
There are other issues too, such as duplicates of the MIDI Remote.
These issues have been resolved more or less satisfactorily in one of the newer versions of Cubase 15.
You can find more on this in the following thread:
If you’re using Windows 11, there may still be some issues with loopbacks and virtual ports due to the new MIDI service.
However, I’d rule that out in your case, as your MIDI Remote appears to be displayed and ‘only’ the assignments are missing.
Thanks for the reply.
I just started rebuilding this particular MR from scratch only to find that on launching Cubase the twenty or so mappings I had assigned were now missing. It worked perfectly up until 2 days ago. No Cubase update, no change to anything just random stuff breaking out of nowhere.
They better not do away with the GR anytime soon as the MR is a POS.
I shouldn’t have to pay for C15 just so the MR actually works.
