I wanted to change the tool modifier for “Constraint Direction” from the default Ctrl to Shift because I would like it separate from “Disable Snapping” which is also using Ctrl.
I can’t get it to work. After I reassigned the Tool Modifier, holding shift does not appear to do anything when moving objects around. It appears Ctrl is still the modifier.
Confirmed here (Cubase 13.0.41), using the Drag & Drop tool. Under the Constraint Direction option, it behaves as expected, using the mouse with ctrl . With shift, no drag & drop possible : the tool traces a vague rectangle, disappearing as soon as I release the key mouse button, with no move of any kind.
EDIT - correction done, and the Drag & Drop → Constraint Direction used with shift key behaves actually exactly like the Select tool without added key…
Confirmed. Shift does nothing, instead Ctrl still works for direction constraint. But it’s specific to automation nodes. (Are there any more objects we can check?)
MIDI CC nodes in the Key Editor behaves the same, the defined Constraint Direction modifier is ignored. Same goes for nodes on the Tempo Track (both in the Tempo Track Editor and on a track in the Project Window).
It does seem to work when moving MIDI Notes as well as parts in the Project Window.
Changing the Modifier key for Disable Snapping also does not have any effect on nodes.
My goal is to separate the Constraint Direction and Disable Snapping into two separate modifiers specifically for when editing automation nodes. Can this be done?
It seems so, but in an unexpected way, on my end. Context : edition of few MIDI CC7 nodes in the key editor.
I have set the Drag&Drop category like this :
Result :
Using these on MIDI CC7 nodes, I get a direction constraint, using the ctrl key, as expected. OTOH, the snapping is not disabled when using the shift one, BUT… Using both the ctrl+shift together does work : I’m able to position a node precisely at a given place, no matter the quantize setting …
I just tried the same setting and am getting different results.
With the above settings, Shift alone doesn’t do anything. Ctrl both constrain direction and disables snapping. Ctrl+Shift has no different effect than Ctrl alone.
All other tool modifiers are default.
I’ve tried on MIDI CC nodes in the Key Editor as well as automation nodes in the Project Window with both the Pen tool and Object Selection tool.
@cubic13 Are you sure Ctrl doesn’t also disables snapping with those settings?
