Just wanted to report this here and see if anyone has had the same issue or even found a solution:
I recently updated my macOS from Ventura to Sonoma. I immediately updated the driver and software for my UR242 interface to the latest available (supposedly all natively supported in Sonoma): YUSB driver V317, Basic FX Suite V300, Tools for UR242 V120.
This caused Cubase to crash on startup (crash log shows it can’t connect to the interface). Same thing after upgrading from C13 to C14. I talked to Steinberg support on the phone and was told maybe it’s time for a new interface, more or less.
Then I tried uninstalling all Yamaha Steinberg drivers and software, and installed just the YSUSB_V317_Mac driver. This worked fine, no issues at all.
I installed Basic_FX_Suite_V300_Mac again - Cubase still works fine, but the efx aren’t available in the mix console (the “Hardware” checkbox is greyed out - I only ever used these efx for live recording, not as VST inserts/sends.
I figured the TOOLS_for_UR242_V120_Mac are needed for Cubase to see the DSP efx, and re-installed those. That’s when Cubase started crashing/not opening again.
So TOOLS_for_UR242_V120_Mac seem to be incompatible with Sonoma. Which apparently means the onboard efx can’t be used anymore either. Not a huge problem, just too bad.
Has anyone had a similar issue or found a workaround?
